I understand there's no compulsory training required to become a counsellor, nevertheless I appreciate it's extremely important to undertake professional training.

Problem is, I'm a little confused as to what such professional training entails.

I often see guides like this:

"A three-stage training route" covering an introduction to counselling, a certificate in counselling skills and a diploma in counselling, but then I also see options for an advanced diploma in counselling, Level 3/4/5 diplomas etc.

What's the difference between level diplomas and what is actually needed in order to become employed as a counsellor?
