unsure of what to fill out for my parents relationship status?

My parents had a religious marriage ceremony but they did not have a civil ceremony so I'm unsure whether they count as legally married? When applying for student finance they ask for my parents relationship status but I'm not sure what to select as I am unsure of their marital status.

i’m assuming they classify “marriage” as in the legal union of two people. so if it wasn’t a marriage in the eyes of the law, then they’re not married.
Do they have a marriage certificate?
If so, then they are married
If not, then they aren't

It's really not that complicated
If they live together then the funding is the same whether they’re married or not.
