how do you survive in uni with very little money?

i'm just wondering how people survive in uni. because based on my calculations, i would not have enough money to cover all of my essentials in uni even if i get the maximum loan. my parents are very unlikely to help me financially. i have also found that even if i get an 8 hour contract job that would also be unlikely to cover everything in a year. so how do people do it since the accommodation alone is so expensive (around £150-£160 a week)

Have you picked the cheapest accommodation? You could look at scholarships/bursaries and find a job which would let you do more hours.

no as my parents doesn't want me to share bathrooms with other people so they made me choose an en suite where i have my own washroom. my concern is what if my schedule is packed meaning i could be in uni 5 days a week that means i might not be able to have a rest day at all if i work for more than 8 hours?

if your parents are insisting on which one you choose, what's their reason for refusing to help you financially? In all honesty if they are telling you have to go ensuite but won't help you and are happy with you are going to struggling then I would be considering whether your relationship with them is a healthy one as an adult.

idk. i just do not expect them to help me financially. i have raised this concern to them but they just compared my situation to their friend's daughter saying "well my workmate didn't really need to help out that much financially for her daughter so i'm sure you can do it or find a way that will work for you"

I'd be considering going for a cheaper accommodation and not telling them, unless you stayed in halls or a studio your whole degree then you would have to share at some point anyway.

if they haven't confirmed it yet then I think a swap could be possible.

yeah that could be helpful lol so much msg. pretty sure this would kill me instead of helping me to survive :'(
Buy supermarket own brand foods, not Heinz, Birds Eye, etc. They work out much cheaper. Also, try and do your shopping at a "proper" supermarket, like Tesco or Sainsbury's etc. It is these supermarkets which sell their own label of things, even their own washing up liquids, toilet rolls etc. Small local shops are alright for buying just bread and milk. But if you bought a week's worth of groceries there you would be skint.

Keep living expenses low, homecook, avoid expensive restaurants and ticketed events.
Always keep an eye out for bargains, student discounts & buy one get one free grocery deals.
I couldn't afford student halls an undergrad, so rented a room in private houseshares.
I live on below £30 a week after rent & bills are paid.

You will probably be offered a student overdraft and perhaps a student credit card too.
Have you checked if you are eligible for any uni bursaries?

Two thing's here...

1) if they force and you let them convince you to take very expensive accomodation. Then you will need to ask them for support.

2) find a job that takes place primarily on the weekend... Or do online tutoring for A level students....

3) budget every £ out... Set what you can spend a week and stick to it. 👀 Socialising may suffer... But with cooking you can live off £250 a month outside of London. £400 in London... Due to transport costs. Lidl, Aldi... Those are you friends.

You won't be having nice meals or a nice life but you will survive.

Eat dog food. Not joking.

Reasonable quality canned dog food is often more expensive than my home-cooked meals are, suitable for both dog and human diets.
Dog food cans also tend to contain meat that has been deemed unfit for human consumption.
