RAF Fitness Test

hey all.

Got my fitness test on tuesday and im just wondering about 2 things. If anyone can help, that would be great.

1) Are you allowed to chose your own speed setting whilst doing the run?

2) Are you allowed to put on an ipod or mp3 player whilst you're running?

Cheers.

1) Long as you do the required distance within the time limit, if you wanted to just bang it out quick as possible for example then just ask the gym staff.

2) I don't see why not, then again I'm not familiar with the exact contract the various gyms are given by the air force, but I suspect if you ask the staff monitoring you they won't be too fussed.

What is this fitness test for?

I'm assuming it's the PJFT for non-commisioned entry?
If you know what pace your comfortable with that will get you a pass then tell the staff and they will set it up for you. Then if later into the run you feel like you could speed it up then you can.
I shouldn't think having an ipod would be a problem, but again just ask when you get there.

I'd like to find out about it too, got my interview in 1 week, then medical and fitness. I always run with my ipod in arm band and would be interesting to know if they allow you to do that.

As long as the music is the soundtrack to Platoon, with bullets and bombs going off. lol.

What is the actual speed they set (I'm assuming they are making you run on a treadmill?). I think you had to be bale to do 2.5km in 15 minutes. So do they set the treadmill at 10kmh? What about incline? Is that at 1% to simulate road running or is it kept flat?
IPOD
WHY?

You sure as eggs won't be wearing one at RTS, so unless you have a track of 'verbal encouragement' a la bad lad's army, why wear one on the

There's a chart topping idea for you. The RAF Reg CPLs of RTS Halton in: "Get a ********* move on! stop ********* walking! ********** move you lot!".

I had my fitness test a few months ago and its up to you to work out what speed you need/want to go at and i think the more comfortable and confident you are the better you'll do. The trainers will help you if you need but the responsibility is yours! I was glad i didn't have to run at a set pace. I get really competitive, so wanted to push myself! Good luck!!

I think as long you run at 12km minimum you make the grade, unless you want to push yourself, which I will do in the last 3-4 minutes, would not want to risk a burn out before. I do like a bit of encouragement, so yes will be looking forward to the Cpl shouting at me, lol!:p:

Hey, im new on the student room.
Does anyone know what else is required for the RAF fitness test on the day?
What things do you do on the day? (:
Press ups (proper ones - not girly), sit ups (ankles held) and running.

Just do press ups, do sit ups and get out running - all good exercise. If it helps you get out of Newbiggin, all the better!!

If applying for the Regiment do you still need to do the 1.5m PJFT or is it just the 3m at PGAC or PROAC? Then of course the MSFT at OASC....

Regiment is 3m in 24 minutes although they set you at a 22 minute pace, also AFCO's are now telling people who are going to Regiment, the selection intake is being reduced to the amount of people applied for that trade, i think it was 14 of 48 (?) pass, although if you don't pass you will get a second chance, they recommended you try to max everything (such as 60 press ups in a minute, pull ups etc), that's what i heard on Thursday 4th June.#

Edit: You also need to do the 1.5m PJFT, as far as I'm aware.

Cheers Hammeh.

Didn't read anywhere about Pull-ups though? Going to have to start working on them too :P

How far you have to run?

A mile and a half, as mentioned in posts #7, #12 and #16 above!
