I personally think 6 marks might be a bit hard to find. If you really wanted an A* and think you did really well in that exam, then why not?

If you can afford it, you might as well go for it. But be aware that it's highly, highly unlikely to go up by that much.

IMHO, 6 marks is quite a lot. If it goes up at all it's only likely to be by a couple of marks, but it's your choice. If you really want it and can pay for it then why not?
Talking of remarks is there a possibility that two marks could be made up in one AS English module?

no. remarks are expensive, and 6 marks is also quite alot away
and also, you got an A! it doesn't matter wether you get an A* or not, just focus on your A levels now, move on

I had my RE paper remarked last year and went up 6 marks :dontknow:

I wouldn't get it remarked "just because", though. An A is still a good grade, is the A* really going to make a great deal of difference?
I'm getting some things remarked. Just because the school said they will pay for it :p: I'm 6 UMS off in Psychology, so is that 6 marks in the exam, or is 1 mark in the exam worth 3UMS or something? I don't get how all this UMS stuff works...

Anyway, Just go for it if you think you did better. I only got 32/60 in my paper 2 for history (evidence) and got 81/90 in paper 1 (knowledge). I thought I did so much better in paper 2 so am getting it remarked. I need something like 4 marks to push me up to an A* in that...

Good Luck

OP is talking about GCSEs not A/AS levels..

I wouldn't, because an A is a great grade and no-one really minds about GCSEs, even at the top unis so long as they're As and above it's great!

People don't seem to accept how good As really are, you should be proud of yourself!

(however if you're really unhappy with it and can afford it just for the sake of it, then by all means do; good luck to you! But don't worry about an A!)
I would only bother if it makes a difference to where you want to go in life, if it affects which college you go to etc, if not don't bother. 6 marks is quite a lot. having said that i had an english as level paper remarked because i couldn't believe the grade i got and it went up 14 marks so you never know. but for a gcse i wouldn't bother. and A is still a great grade.
i agree with be-lie-ve, you have to understand (and don't worry realisation will hit in a few months) that no one really cares about your exact gcse results. So unless you're planning to apply for geography courses at uni there is no point.
however, you should know that a friend of mine jumped from a C to an A* in his german gcse last year, and you can imagine how many more marks there would be to find there! all depends on exam board.
I personally don’t think its worth a remark, achieving an A is already a high enough grade for you to carry the subject onto AS and A2 if you want, you also need to take into consideration that you will be paying for the remark and is it really worth having to pay for your paper to be remarked just for the sake of 6 marks when you already have an A. It’s also a possibility that you could loose even more marks when you have it remarked, so I think its best to leave it. Although its your decision and if you really think you could of achieved an A* then I think its worth getting it remarked, another thing is you were 6 marks off so you may only gain a few marks more which will still leave you with an overall grade of A.

thankyou for all your comments, sorry for not quoting anyone specifically.
I do see that GCSEs aren't all that important and of course A-Levels are far more important, but geography is my favourite subject and I would have liked an A*.
If the school offer to pay for it I will go for it, I have nothing to lose, but I won't bother if I had to pay for it myself. Thankyou for all your comments thuogh, I do appreciate them

If the school do offer to pay for you to have your paper remarked obviously go ahead with it, but I wouldn’t worry to much about it if you have to pay for it yourself. Good luck!

I'm referring to GCSE... Maybe you got confused because I said UMS? Do they not have that in GCSE? Meh, I don't even know. Anyway, All I know is that that's how many marks I'm off and felt I did better that 32/60...

I thought you did get UMS in GCSE? hmmm :s-smilie:

I feel stupid now :frown:
I'm 2 marks off an A* in my Maths. I'm getting the god damn remark. You should too

Lol noo i dont think it works off UMS at GCSE
thats why i was confused! was like...i want an A*...never gotten one, yet if they introduce the 90% above thing il have loads an it just wont be far cos mine would still be just A's!:frown: an someone with 90% would have a higher grade than me, who got 100%!
bla...anyone else not like the idea of introducing A*'s to a level?

You do, but each subject isn't marked out of 600 as it has been for A Level. It's all to do with how they scale up your raw scores - I was 2 marks off of A* in RE but 1 more mark on my coursework would have got me that because of how they scale it. I'm quite annoyed about it as my teacher wouldn't let me improve the coursework when others did just because I got higher than them. It's a very high boundary so I don't think they will find the marks if I sent it for a remark.

I don't like the A* idea for A Level either - it's worked the way it is for years, and it won't make any difference to past candidates who deserved the A*'s with the boundaries that are being set for it.
