Can i work a normal job while also doing theater?

Hi there :smile: i always wanted to do theater and not as just a hobby. But i know it can be hard to survive off that alone. My second choice was to do phycology. Is that even a possibility. For info i want to live in london or japan by the time i finish uni :smile:)
Perhaps your question is better phrased as "Can I get a real job whilst also doing theatre?"

You can and I have.
But!... you will need to find casual/part time or flexi hours. You can get auditions at any notice (I’ve had auditions with an hour and a half notice befor) so you need a job that you can leave quickly or swap shift etc at short notice. Evening work is best but if you get a theatre job you will need to quit. Obviously if it’s only a week or two week show, this means you might not have a job to go back to after.
So to answer the question Yes you can, but keep in mind which is more important to you and whether you can deal with switching / dropping jobs a lot.
It’s difficult but doable
