Loughborough vs Nottingham

So I need some help. Results day considering the situation was ok for me. The issue is I missed out on doing mechanical engineering with a year in industry at Nottingham but got offered a course in architectural environmental engineering instead. Loughborough was my insurance and I got accepted into mechanical engineering with a foundation year.

I am not sure which to choose as I like Nottingham as a city and university but prefer the course at Loughborough.

What should I do?

I'm pretty sure that Nottingham is only about half an hour away from Nottingham so it's a way of getting the best of both worlds. You can go to Loughbourgh and do the course that suits you but can go for nights out (when everything is back to normal) in Nottingham. You seem to like Loughbourgh as a uni more so would do better but like Nottingham's location. Best of luck with your decision

I think you really need to study the course modules at Nottingham and see if they genuinely interest you. It sounds like quite a niche course to be honest so unless it really does appeal, it might be better to go with Loughborough.

Are you considering appealing your grades at all or do you feel that you don't have grounds on the basis of mocks or anything?
This was my exact situation, missed out on grades for aerospace so they offered me architectural environment engineering and I’ve accepted it. I reckon if u rlly want to go into mechanical then go w Loughborough, regardless of the town life. At the end of the day it’s the course that matters most and the people you’re with, no matter where, will make the experience

mech eng (Loughborough) and civil eng (Nottingham) are very different subjects. I would select the subject you are passionate about. It's not like a choice between Nottingham or the University of Accrington Stanley - Loughborough - its a top uni so you will have a great learning experience. Loughborough is a great campus uni with buses laid on to take students into Nottingham for nights out.

As much as I'd love to jump up & down and say come to Notts engineering (im a grad from mech-eng their)

If you want to study mechanical then go to Loughborough. Architecture & environment is quite different, and they probably offered that because they have space their that they want to fill.

The course is more important imo.
i wouldn't do such a niche degree as a first degree. people usually specialise in their masters, not in their first degree.

go to loughborough and do mechanical engineering, or look in clearing for somewhere else if you're not happy with loughborough.
As for whether it’s worth doing a foundation year it partly depends on your grades. Do you mind saying what grades you got?
definitely loughborough. the course you do is the most important thing. also, loughborough is close to nottingham so if you like the city of notts you can still go there often
Nottingham does have a foundation program for engineering, perhaps pick the phone up and ask if they'll consider you for that instead.

I got a BBC with a B in economics B in maths and C in physics. I am really lucky and happy that I have both of these opportunities but just want to make sure I am making the best choice for me.

If you prefer Nottingham as a uni.
Then i would recommend calling and asking about the foundation year, I think if they are willing to offer another course they might well offer this as well.

Unis have been asked to be flexible, so hopefully they can allow this.

Whatever you decide both are great unis!

Thanks, that in all honesty would be the best of both worlds. I will see if they consider me but if not ill accept Loughborough.

So a lot of things are going on and now I’m even more confused. My CAG was an A B B with an A in maths which was what was required to get into the course I wanted to at Nottingham. The grade I got on the 13 August was B B C. The CAG is now going to be my final grade due to the backlash. I am in the process of changing my course from Architectural environment engineering to the foundation programme which required me to apply through clearing. Meaning I had to decline my offers.

I have no clue where I stand anymore as Loughborough can’t take me and Nottingham are currently reviewing my application.

I’m currently just sent an application for my original course and hopefully I’ll be accepted.

Edit: Loughborough can’t take me as I declined the Nottingham offer in order to obtain the foundation programme. Insurance only accepted when your firm rejects not the other way.

Notts (i believe) should accept you based on their statement

It has been a very confusing time, especially today with the U turn. Nottingham have now made this statement so I hope that means they will honour their original offer of ABB which you now have. I would phone their Admissions office tomorrow to discuss it with them but I don't see why they wouldn't let you onto the normal course as opposed to the Foundation course.
