As the title suggests. Does Optometry still pay well?

Every Optometrist I've spoken to says that salaries are decreasing and the market is slowly becoming saturated with more and more graduates and qualifying optoms. But when you check salaries on Reed or Indeed job roles always seem to be offering £40k+ even for those that are newly qualified which is more than a lot of recent ACCA or ACA qualified accountants that I know.

Is it worth still becoming an Optometrist nowadays?

It depends what you are looking to specialise into, or do you want to be an optometrist who works in the community? The focus should be will this job make you happy, do not just focus it on money as things will change and adapt over the decades. Our economy is currently unpredictable, so focus on happiness NOT money.

But, in conclusion whatever you want to do is worth it if YOU are happy.

You're right there. Money isn't everything as I know that from my current career. I just wanted to know whether the salary of an Optom is comfortable and stable enough to make it worth changing career.
