if i take a gap year and work, will i be charged tax and if so how much?

I'm just wondering that when I take my gap year this year and if I start working will I have to pay tax and if so will it be the same amount that other older people pay? im 18 btw

Probably not, I think the tax free earning limit is around £12,000, if you earn over that you will be taxed.

as someone that took a gap year to work, yes you will have to pay tax the same way any other employed person of any age pays tax. How much you pay will depend on how much you earn and how many hours you work so it can’t easily be said.

Until you've earned around 12000 something £ then you wouldn't get charged income tax. But you will be charged national insurance tax.

If you earn below £189 a week then 0 tax, no national insurance tax or anything.

something like between £1000-£189, then what you do is: (money earned that week-189)*0.12. and that would be your national insurance tax for that week.

The tax is based on tax years - so April 2020 to March 2021. That means that you have to earn £12k (or whatever it is) before the end of March to have to pay tax.
