Northampton is the worst place in the entire world. Steer well clear.
Avoid spending all of your student maintenance on stupid things, as many people end up having to top it up by working at the absolutely massive local psychiatric hospital, a place of horrors.
All the locals talk about is shoes and lift towers and how Northampton could have been like oxbrige if it wasn't for the civil war.

It is a relatively multicultural places, town has a lot of east Asian shop. And I *think* it has a fairly high African population.

Never let anyone trick you into going to 'Rushton Lakes'. Its a miserable shopping centre that spoils a once beautiful lake.

A local, I assume?
I can't comment on the actual uni. But even if it is OK, would you go to say Birmingham uni if it was in the middle of Luton/ gang land?

OP, in regards to violence, I have been assaulted the locals on a few occasions. Hense I am in anon.

Birmingham uni has crime in Selly Oak and Northfield (to name a couple of places). Most universities are in big cities so they'll be some crime and you can't really use that as a reason.

I live in north beds so know all the areas around there quite well.
Luton is hardly gangland altho I must agree it’s worse than Northampton. I don’t think Northampton is unsafe, my ex girlfriend lived in Duston and her house seemed fine. Obviously your experience differs from mine

That shopping center has been built on the edge of a once beautiful lake. It's a tragedy for the environment.
