Hi, I'm not a year 10 and I only made a single post in the year 9 thread, but here comes my spontaneous Year 10 advice free of charge:

Year 10 involves a lot of hormones. You're growing a lot this year. Maybe Lewis from your Maths class fancies you. Maybe you're not friends with Louise any more because she blanked you on Snapchat. Who knows? :iiam:

However, at some point you are going to need to remember and recall the things you have learnt this year. That time will come in the summer of 2022 in an exam hall on a warm afternoon, but from now: things start to count. :afraid:

How can you best make use of your time?
- Attendance. Not feeling too well? Have 2 paracetamol and come into school anyway. Avoid the curry at lunch and you'll be fine. You'll be sorry if your exercise books is missing bits of information when you come to reading them back for revision next year.

- Keep everything. Don't throw away any worksheets, booklets, textbook photocopies, exercise books. Keep it all and keep it tidy. This year is about getting some knowledge - including in physical form.

- Have fun. Despite all the scary words in this post this is still not the big crunch time yet. Stay relaxed, get into yoga, go swimming, spent time with your friends (always wear protection).

- Keep calm. Now is not the time to have a massive row with a teacher for confiscating your phone or your earrings (boys). Now is the time to show your maturity, breathe a little and rise above the situation. You're better than that.

Give it some beans everyone. :happy2:
wait Louise is gonna blank me on snapchat?

Hey! I'm Binary, and i'm going into year 10. Yay!

I like being organised , I swim, I am looking forward to 2021-2022 and what it brings. :flute:

I am studying:

EDEXCEL Maths (Higher)
AQA Biology (Higher)
AQA Chemistry (Higher)
AQA Physics (Higher)
WJEC EDUQAS Religious Studies
AQA English Literature
AQA English Language
AQA Engineering
EDEXCEL B Geography
AQA Spanish
OCR Computer Science

(I'm not sure if there is a higher for each subject)

My favourite subject would be Maths and RS, and least favourite is both of the English.
We haven't received any predicted grades because of the pandemic.
I hope for 9s in every subject but lowest I would be happy with would be 7.
I like to condense my notes and do practice questions.
I aspire to be an Engineer, but not sure in which aspect.
I will miss year 9, it was fun and chill.
I am quite scared about going into year 10, but hopefully it will be a whizzz and all of us here will get the grades we hope for in year 11.

Spoiler:
Show
I just wanna go back to Year 6, oh those happy times.
how can u like maths but hate english

Hey, I'm Evie, I'm going into Year 10 in 5 days
My hobbies include reading, although I've been in a major book slump recently :'( ,listening to, and trying to find new music ,and I also love watching old films. The subject I'm studying are:

  • English Lit
  • English Lang
  • Maths (Higher? Further?)
  • Triple science
  • RS
  • Spanish
  • French
  • History
  • Music

I'm not 100% sure what my exam boards are but I think most are AQA, I also don't know what my predicted grades are but I think I'm doing Ok in most subjects... I hope.
my favourite subject has always been English, but thanks to having a great teacher in year 8 + 9 I also love science. My least favourite subject is probably maths.
I have no real idea what I want to do when I'm older, probably something to do with writing, like journalism or publishing, but I also think going into STEM, specifically psychology or neuroscience, could be really interesting...
I've never been very good at revising in the conventional sense, which I will definitely have to work on, but I actually really like taking tests, I really have no idea why
I have mixed feelings about starting year 10; on the one hand I'm looking forward to be dropping subjects I never liked (PE and Geography) and learning interesting GCSE content in subjects I enjoy. However, I feel like I have forgotten everything I learnt last year because of the 5/6 month break from in-person learning...we'll see I guess.:dontknow:
Anyway, sorry for the long post, good luck everyone.
yaaas finally someone who doesnt like maths
girl i relate on the next level

Hi, I'm Josh and I'm starting Year 10 in a few days.
For GCSE I am studying:
English Literature (Edexcel)
English Language (Edexcel)
Maths (AQA)
Chemistry (AQA)
Computer Science (OCR)
French (AQA)
Spanish (AQA)
Food (AQA)
Geography (AQA)
RS short course (WJEC/Eduqas)
PE (Non-GCSE)

I don't have my predicted grades yet, but I would like most/all to be 7's and above. I'm not sure how to do this though. If you have any advice about getting top grades and revising well then that would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck with your GCSE's everyone!

GOOD LUCK YEAR 10 AND HAVE FUN BUT DON'T FORGET TO CRACK DOWN
Hi! I'm Vilas, and I'm going into Year 10 in 3 days!!! (oof)
My hobbies include playing the piano (I'm in Grade 5) and I love to learn. I live in Wales so grades here are kinda different - here we have the A*-G system. I also use the WJEC board for all subjects.

Subjects I'm taking:
Compulsory:-
WJEC GCSE English Language
WJEC GCSE English Literature
WJEC GCSE Mathematics
WJEC GCSE Maths-Numeracy
WJEC GCSE Biology
WJEC GCSE Chemistry
WJEC GCSE Physics
WJEC GCSE Welsh 2nd Language
WJEC GCSE Religious Studies
WJEC GCSE Skills Challenge Certificate (like E-Bacc in England but here we call it Welsh Bacc)
Options:-
WJEC GCSE Geography
WJEC GCSE German
WJEC GCSE Music

Favourite Subject: Maths (definitely)
Least Favourite Subject: Probs P.E./History (even though I haven't picked them for my options)

Predicted Grades: I haven't been predicted any grades as we haven't done much GCSE work yet. But the grades I am hoping to get are As and A*s.

Favourite Way to Revise: Over the summer holidays I have been searching long and hard for the best study/revision techniques. I've watched UnJaded Jade, Eve Bennett and Lucreziachloe. But I came across a particular channel called Ali Abdaal and found there that according to numerous studies, the best revision techniques are (1) Active Recall - testing yourself and (2) Spaced Repetition - testing yourself over a period of time. He talks about this in a lot of his videos and he shows how he uses Google Sheets to test himself and as a retrospective revision timetable. You should all check out his channel.

My Future Dream Job: I'm aspiring to go to Oxbridge and study medicine there. I'm not too sure what speciality I want to dive in yet though.

Thoughts about Year 9: I can't believe I've missed half of Year 9! It was quite an amazing year to be honest, as I made a lot more friends and participated in DofE Bronze which was so fun, even though we never got to do the expedition (because of the pandemic).

Thoughts about starting Year 10: I kinda feel nervous as I'm starting GCSE, but I can't wait to meet all my friends again. Also I'm looking forward to be dropping some subjects that I didn't enjoy (i.e. PE) but I feel slightly nervous as teachers have high expectations of me since last year.

Don't worry guys - hopefully we will make it to June 2022. Good luck everyone!
