Mature student help!

Hi everyone, I’m 24 and interested in studying cosmetic science I’m really struggling with my personal statement I’ve gone over the 4000 count mark. Could anyone offer any advice on what they think Is important for a mature student. Also in order to apply do I need to complete all the tasks on UCAS first and pay before applying? I’d be going through clearing now I guess
