I know I am early in making this thread but still I wanted to create a thread for undergraduates and graduates (as well as mature students) who are applying to medical school for the standard 5 year course to be able to relate and to help each other. This thread will show the the most fast and slowest university replies relating to Medicine. I hope this helps for future enquirers.

If you are trying to work out which universities to apply to or if your UCAT/GAMSAT/BMAT score is sufficient for university then this spreadsheet should help.

Have you considered applying to Hull-York? You can email them to see if you have sufficient amount of Chemistry and Biology in your degrees to apply there, you have until the 1st October to email them to ask them with your qualifications?

Here’s their requirements if you are interested: https://www.hyms.ac.uk/medicine/appl...y-requirements

I am a graduate applicant applying for A100, predicted a 2:1 and Ucat 755 band 2, meaning I am likely to get interviewed at most/all of my top 4. However, interviews are not my strong point and I want to know which universities give offers to the highest percentage of interviewees or have the 'easiest' interviews. Any recommendations?

Unfortunately my degree isn't seen as having enough biology and I have no chemistry background so I don't meet their requirements. To be honest I might be in a similar situation with Sunderland, they have been unclear when I have asked them before. I have agreed with my partner that basically we could afford for me to do a 5 year course at Newcastle or Sunderland as we could live where we do now and he would not need to look for a new job, anywhere further afield would require a move and him to change jobs which would be tricky right now in the current climate and his area of work. Warwick would be more manageable due to financing for the 4 year course. The ideal situation would be an offer for Newcastle then I can continue to work on the nurse bank and my partner can keep his job!

I completely understand - trust me - my mother was in a similar position but with Nursing. I wish you the best - you have a really good UCAT score so hopefully you get a interview and a offer.

Have you counted your UCAS points (so your Scottish Highers points and your degree points) for Queen Mary’s - does your UCAT score match with their required for a interview? As with Queen’s they are more favourable towards applicants with a 1st then they interview applicants with a high UCAT score with a 2:1 which comes about to 2840-2960 (but if your UCAS points add up then it would be lower UCAT score needed for a interview).

If I count all my advanced highers and only the highers that I didn't take as adv highers then my score comes to 255, otherwise its 321, that is if I'm calculating correctly.

But I didn't realise they look at that if I am applying as a grad to the UG course...

I am an international student. I got a 2:1 in a non-science degree and Master in Management.

I tried looking at FOI to find out about the UCAT cut off for international student but can't find much information. For those international students who were in similar situation and have gotten a place in university, please let me know which university gave you an interview so that I can add them to my shortlist.

Currently, I am planning to apply to KCL, Manchester, Birmingham, St George

Hi!

Good luck with your choices, I am starting A100 at NCL on Monday! If you need any help with the application process drop me a message.

Regarding Sunderland, I was going to apply there with a BSc Biomedical Science but I was told that it didn't have sufficient chemistry. They were asking for an A level in chemistry as well as my degree, so unfortunately I think you're correct that your nursing degree isn't sufficient.

Good luck!

Then you are fine - yeah Queen Mary’s does it for both programmes. The difference is that they are “fairer” with their selection for the undergraduate program, if you have the tariff points and have a first then you are very likely to be selected with their interview - 2:1 applicants that are invited for interview usually have a high tariff points in the first place. Graduates with a 2: 1 that apply to Barts is a risky option. With their graduate program they rarely select applicants with 2:1s even if they have some obscene score only.

There is no such thing as a medical school that administrate easy interviews especially for graduates where it is competitive to get in the 5 year course - the vast majority of offers given by medical schools are purely based on the interview. If I was you I would just start to practice speaking to professionals and read and watch videos on MMI and panel interviews (whatever uni you decide to apply to). I believe there is a book by ISC about medical interviews - a lot of people found it useful.

Exciting! How are you feeling about starting? I had a bit of a look at last year's Newcastle thread to get an idea of timescales so I feel like I have followed your journey! Good luck for tomorrow
Sunderland advised me that their requirement is now sufficient chemistry OR biology which appears to be a change since last year but they didn't elaborate on how my degree, Scottish Higher and previous access course would be viewed so I figured I will put down the choice to fill the space but expect a rejection. It's not like I have an excess of options!

Are you sure that a100 is competitive for graduates?? The only reason I am applying to a100 and not GEM is due to the fact that it is just as competitive as for school leavers as many universities have a set number of seats for grads on a100, sometimes 50%. I do think that interviews can be easy - was just wondering which universities have the greatest offer to interview ratio and/or were easy to prep for in peoples opinion, eg I heard KCL give offers after most interviews whereas for other unis it may be only 30% etc etc. Thanks for the tips about the ISC and MMI, will defo check out after the application.

Considering Cardiff, Leicester, Nottingham
Not enough for Barts, with King’s your score is enough but bare in mind they do look at your score in each section and King’s is quite competitive between graduates - they also take your personal statement and work experience so if you have the other factors down pact then go for it. For St. George’s it will be enough - this is the first year they aren’t looking at A-Levels so I am not sure how they would select graduates.

For Nottingham you would have to score yourself and see if it is above 46 for a interview - they look at A Levels, GCSEs, each section and your SJT.

You have great A-Levels - consider applying to programmes that consider A-Levels or use it as a screening: Birmingham (you would have to score yourself and see if you are likely for a interview), Manchester (they interview those who have over 2660 typically), Hull-York (if you have good GCSEs), Queen’s Belfast (you would have to score yourself but I believe you would get almost a guarantee interview with the academic requirements being met), Keele (if you have extensive work experience), Sheffield etc.
