Could I live off £82.39 per week in Surrey

I'm going to surrey university. When I applied for student finance, my household income dropped because of COVID. We went from £35000 to £24000. Only living off my dad's full-time job which is £24000 so I ended up with a low maintenance loan of £7261. Before COVID, he had a part-time job which is a zero-hour contract job as well and my mum had a part-time zero-hour contract job. After deducting from rent, I would have £32.39 remaining. Because my mum lost her job because of COVID, only my dad can give me money, he says he could give me £50 per week.
I’m assuming the amount specified is just for food and odd bits and bobs? If so then £82.39 is more than enough if you manage your money well

Definitely, I can even manage with less since I often cook my meals and rarely buy take-outs. Especially during covid with little to do, money isn't really going anywhere.

Hi there!

I am a second year Psychology student here at Surrey  It's great to hear you are going to Surrey! I am excited for you.

In first year I lived on about £50 a week and found it was manageable. I managed my money by giving myself a budget on how much to spend weekly on food, how much I needed for personal care and socialising etc. Due to splitting the money like this I found it very manageable because I knew that I had to stick to the amount I dedicated for food and other bits. I would definitely say that £82.39 is a good manageable amount for you to live on, you could give your self an allowance like I did for food and personal care etc, this might make it more manageable for you. Please see this link all about managing money at university: https://www.ucas.com/finance/managing-money

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions.
