Art foundation diploma before natural science degree

I want to apply to study natural sciences at Cambridge, Exeter... (don’t know yet) but have always loved art and am considering doing a one year art foundation diploma on a gap year as it is free if you are under 19 and I won’t have this chance again. Would this negatively impact my application if I applied deferred/ would employers look down on it?

No it won’t affect your application. You should talk to your college about who will provide your reference as ideally it would be written by a science teacher.

it’s quite common for students to take an art foundation and then go on to an academic degree. A year exploring your creative interests doesn’t harm your cv in any way
