episode three: i spill chemicals down my leg


yikes....how embarAssing but more on that later.


biology:

errrm we keep missing lots of bio lessons bc my teachers go on courses but i don’t really mind. we’re finishing up respiration and UghHhHhH we have a bio trip where we gotta trek around a forest n throw quadrats around for eight hours noOooo can’t we just do it on the field please whyyy. we also are finishing of human responses just gotta do the kidneys and livers n then we’re onto boooooring plant stuff yawn who cares which hormones they use just let them be ya know photosynthesis n all that. hm we were gonna have a test on the first day back but we all begged for second week back bc lots of people are doing bmat so we will Not be revising respiration over half term hahaA

chemistry:

so i called it - we had a test (that’s why this update is so late lol) it was on transition metals, ligands & complex ions, redox which is just spicy maths, and organic yUuuuck actually i prefer organic but it’s just so MUCH to remember but luckily it was just aromatics n carbonyls. i felt it went okay i haven’t done proper revision in a lOng while but i made sure to do all the questions i could find n it went okay! it’s tough bc now every single test counts towards potential cags (centre assessed grades) if our exams get cancelled next year n they need evidence of our predicted so it’s like STRESSS because i have to balance my bmat revision, interview prep and all my other teachers also feel like giving out tests too so mmm how fun

and back to today’s title...so yes after 7 years of chemistry mez manages to spill chemicals down her trousers woo....luckily it was only universal indicator but I really thought it was h2so4 looool thank the lord, was proper worried it was gonna stain my leg green but it came off in the shower. that practical was also unnecessarily long we had to distillate and reflux alcohol to aldehydes to carboxylic acids but it did end up working as we used the tiny drops of universal indicator left n it turned acidic somehow! the set up was quite cool but a pAin to put together you had to get it at a particular angle or it would keep slipping out the tube n working with water and electricity simultaneously was kinda scary but also exhilarating bwahaha.

we also did another pag (nope I didn’t spill anything don’t worry) where we made esters which was soooooo fun omg made me realise how much I love chem n i know it’s not the same as pharmaceuticals but just mixing things in test tubes and making pretty colours n smells just Yesss i want a lab in my future forever home.

psychology :

why is she setting us another test....didn’t we just do one huh! n this topic is so boring it’s issues and debates like nature vs nurture, is psychology a science. it’s quite short so it’s looking like a day before kinda memorising situation. the end of this topic marks the halfway point in A2 and we just have three topics left!! crazyyyy but these next topics are chunky but super interesting we’re doing relationships, aggression and schizophrenia.

maths:

you know im actually loving maths rn! hypothesis testing is so fun n my calculator (once I remember how to use it) makes it a dream. even parametrics aren’t too bad. sigh just dreading when we go onto calculus....... and we will be soon as we have a ffffffff maths test on the last day of half term aaaagghhhhh on radians, trig, parametrics and some y2 mechanics I think resolving forces and moments. so that’s gonna be fun revision but i dont mind these topics. trig is actually quite fun now that i have the identities down and it’s vvv nice knowing how to derive them from other things. wah what is this mathematical enthusiasm who are you and what have you done with mez....

epq:

we got our marks back n i got 41/50 which is an A. i mean im fine with that it’s just a lil bit meh bc i put a lot of work into it but oh well trying to appeal it is too much effort and it doesn’t even affect any of my ucas choices. plus I already have a gold crest for it so i don’t reaaaallly care. here’s to hoping the boundaries plummet next year I think it was 45 for an A* but I won’t get my hopes up

extras:

so we had to run virtual societies which was a mess to start with but eventually it ended up working pretty well so that’s great we can somewhat restart those. we also have to finalise our conference details....why do people not reply to emails oh my.

more excitingly....if that’s even a word - i was awarded a jack petchey award?!?! like hUhHhh what did i even do lol I thought it was a mistake at first but nope! that was absolutely mad n yeah I get to decide where to donate the £250 to either a school project/department. so a y13 trip or.....n i also won another essay competition i didn’t even recall entering ahaha how fun.

hmm i also got onto two programmes for interview skills thats gonna run over the next couple weeks so that’s exciting stuff hopefully i’ll become one of those people who can articulate their thoughts beautifully...i still much prefer writing.

ahhh and i started in my first ever film! ahaha not really it was something for the schools virtual open evening but it was suuuuuper fancy one of our old English teachers went on to become a director so he came back n had this whole lighting set up w two camera angles n i got to wear a mic and snap the little thing and say Action!! oh and the validations was just mwah chefs kiss i got my propaganda speech done in one take yes Bow down everyone I’m the Best. ahh creative mez was absolutely thrivinG ugh in an alternate reality i am definitely living my suppressed theatre kid dreams.

oh and happy ucas early entry deadline day! depending on when i get this up the deadline should be 6pm so make sure you get them in/got them in by then! i sent mine off on Monday and ahhhh super scary but exciting getting all the email confirmations from unis wooo and What the hell people are already getting offers at my school aha idk how that even works but it’s crazY. for med it’s different as they gotta look at everything like entrance tests predictors etc n then call for interview. plus my bmat is now in under three weeks and i am yet to start intensive revision. i just get so tired when i get home ive been waking at 4am for the past month n trying to fit everything in and yet there still aren’t enough hours in the day! aaGghh looking like a half term GRIND ohhhH i really need it go well. i wanted to go up to oxford for a day as I’ve never been before just to feel the vibes but w all these new restrictions idk if that’s gonna be possible. im just holding out for nov 4th then I can sorta relax ish..i try doing stuff on the train to and from school as it’s like an hour journey but it’s just sooo easy to fall asleep ahH hopefully I’ll snap into it soon.

and on that note - im going to be inactive on here until my bmat is over as i just can’t balance so many things (sigh guess i really am not indestructible) so yeah if you see me around tsr please tell me to go and revise okay! peer pressure guys come on. I deleted all my socials n my screen time has Shot down one day it was something like 53mins it was crazy but yeah i just need all the time i can get at this point.

i’ll be back soon! in the meantime please stay happy and healthy, wear warm clothes as it’s starting to get a lil colder but hey the best season is starting soon haha. all my early entry gang im so proud of us for getting it all in and just surviving the last couple months. your efforts do not go unnoticed and you all deserve the world and more, don’t let anyone tell you different.

alrighty

eng lang - memorise the mark scheme, do past papers n look at examiner reports. memorise a story you can apply for creative writing sections

eng lit - memorise in three sections per book 1) characters 2) relationships 3) themes. don't bother with your own analysis find interesting stuff online/youtube etc. idk if you guys still do poetry this year but same concept but pair up poems and analyse them side by side and memorise essay plans

maths - sigh past papers is the only way and lots of practice

sciences - physics and maths tutor! even works up to a level lol and do all the past papers for your board. try mindmapping & blurting for content understanding

languages - find fancy a level vocab that you can throw in, give yourself a wordbank you can rely on for any task. practice a little every day, quizlet/active recall sites are great

rs - easiest tbh again memorise mark schemes, do practice essays form p.paper qs. content memorising i made flashcards and mneumonics and would go through them before bed and when i woke up and if i got one wrong i'd start from the beginning til i was pretty much fluent!

escapism is a made one

ahhh okay woah im sure you'll smash it regardless! will you apply to uni later then as most courses in the uk require you to be 18 when you start?
