Idk about romance or mystery but there's a great student book- short but informative- called "Reflections". It's by Mo Abir and really good imo on just current world affairs. It's on Amazon pretty sure

The Kite Runner. It's beautifully written and Hosseini has a very gripping style.

Red, white and royal blue!!!
I literally don’t know a single person who hasn’t enjoyed it. If you like romance, I think you’ll like it

At that age I enjoyed the vampire academy books,
Have you read them?
I would say it was typically romance

This is a bit of a stretch but a book that I would recommed is the Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. Its honestly a work of Fantasy brillance and quite easy to get into. It has a great and complete story with a gripping premise cool protaganist and powers as well as a diverse set of places and characters.

Great romance books:
- Jandy Nelson books: I'll Give you the Sun ; The Sky is Everywhere
- Rainbow Rowell books eg Fan Girl ; Eleanor & Park
- Outlander (although trigger warning for sensitive folk coz there is some rapey-ness in it too if I remember correctly)
- Noughts & Crosses (although warning - I cried quite a lot reading it)

'And Then There Were None' by Agatha Christie is a great book - it is a bit slow at the start however it is an incredible book. If you like mysteries then I would recommend all of her books. They were written decades ago but they are some of the best mysteries ever!
Other mystery(ish) books you may like:
The Chain by Adrian McKinty
One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus
The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas
