What are you most nervous about for University?

Uni start dates are fast approaching and the long, hot COVID summer is coming to an end... I can't be the only fresher whose anticipation is increasingly tinged with nerves (right? :emo:)

So - what are you most nervous about for starting uni this year?

For me, I just don't know how I'm supposed to meet anyone with virtual freshers and small bubbles! Am I doomed to know only four or five other medics for the rest of my uni life? And, of course, the fear that dare not speak it's name: what if I got on this course via a clerical error and fail miserably? But what's everyone else worried about

I am a bit upset about how the whole welcome week for our med school is on Zoom, like its going to be so awkward. I wish we could have had in campus events, but hey, it is what it is

Oh that really sucks! Really not sure how you go about making friends on zoom - I’m glad we still have a few in person things.

Is your entire first term virtual, then? Or will you have in person lessons?
Mine is meeting people too. I'm not on social media so i have this vision in my head that everyone has some kind of facebook group or something similar and will be getting to know each other and ill wander in like a lost sheep haha! Plus being a mature student i think i worry i wont have much in common with the other members of my cohort
I’m worried about making friends haha. I’m in all the Facebook group chats and WhatsApp groups so I’m getting to know people, but I’m worried about actually making proper friendships.
I have made a lot of friends so far, but I'm scared about not fitting into any specific friendship group so I'll just know a lot of people but never get invited out, etc. But that's just an irrational fear I suppose haha

Yeah I’m kind of worried about that too - all the freshers events are being ‘marketed’ on Instagram according to my school friends and I just...don’t use it 😅 I’m hoping that most people make friends when they’re there though

I think unis have more mature students than we typically imagine? And I’m at least one 18yo who’d be up for meeting someone a bit older - I’ve heard about 1/4 of my course is 19+!

Hahaha I think the proper friendships only come when you meet people face to face? I hope anyway

How useful do you think the groups are, I’m not really in any....

No that’s really understandable, I’ve worried about that too since I had a really close knit group at 6th form. Just got to keep our fingers crossed I guess!
Making friends as I have the worst social anxiety. I don't want to be alone in classes and outside of classes. I've always had trouble making friends:frown:

Aw I’m sorry to hear that :hugs:

If it helps you can see that pretty much everyone in this thread is in the same place so I think lots of people will really be making an effort and Freshers has lots of opportunities? But it’s so hard not to worry about these things I know :frown:

I have this too as a mature student. Plus doing well getting a First and managing my time well. As well as making friends and fitting in too.

Trusting the wrong people? Being a loner? Hm, not keeping up with the humungous work load. Contrary to the the second one, SOCIALISING. Running out of money. Losing contact with my current friends. If I think of anymore, I'll share

It is so hard to approach people tbh I'm going to be standing there like a lost child. I'm so awkward:frown: thanks

I think they are really trying to make it fully virtual. But I'll use the library as much as possible in a hope to make some friends in person (can you even make friends in the library?)

Not so much nervous as mildly annoyed that my uni card and dbs aren't done yet

Omg I know, it’s going to be right back to the awkwardness of first day of 6th form... I find it hard to approach people too, but I like to think that if we don’t get on uni is big enough to never see them again

Ugh. Virtual freshers but open library...? Odd?

I hope you can make friends in the library because I imagine I’ll be spending loads of time there! Maybe if you see they’re working on the same thing as you...?
