thank you thank you!! <3
we're on week who even knows but things are looking up! had a few more exams at the beginning of this week but after taking some much needed time off over the weekend (for the most part) and after the official end of my mocks for now, I'm feeling so much better! and even more productive! I've actually been making full use of my private studies. but onto the actual lessons!

biology
looked at auxins with one teacher, and then in our double lesson later in the week we dissected a heart! we've done it before but we didn't actually do the practical work that goes alongside it, which consists of drawing a scientific diagram of the heart we just dissected and let me tell you... it did NOT go well. as long as I pass the drawing skill I'll be happy, forget accuracy. I also think I might have accidentally ditched a lesson this week? I was told it wasn't on but I think it actually was. but I think we were due to start respiration so I had a look at glycolysis and it actually makes sense! we'll see how long it takes before I'm entirely lost

maths
had another two exams this week, fun... the paper two one was SHOCKING. like genuinely truly terrible to the core. I skipped almost every question while doing my initial run through of it because I just didn't have a clue what was happening. but luckily the whole class echoed my disgust so no high hopes here. I at least got some stuff written down. luckily the applied maths one was a bit nicer, but still not perfect. we only had one lesson other than the exams this week and we started looking at the trigonometry and modelling chapter. so far we've only done the addition formulae and that bit seems fairly easy? I just need to actually remember the equations.

german
did another exam in this! it was our essay writing one so I had to write one essay on the play and one on the film. our teacher had emailed us beforehand saying that the questions were really difficult so I went in expecting the worst, but they weren't too bad! I don't know if I actually managed to eloquently express the points I was trying to get across but looking at the questions didn't make me want to cry so that's okay. we've also started the final topic which is the reunification of Germany. so far we've only looked at contextual stuff, like how the Berlin wall and whole division of Germany actually happened in the first place. I was actually supposed to have another lesson on it today (my only lesson of the day bearing in mind, period 3) but my teacher is ill so I sort of went into school for nothing. but anyway! (I went home at break one it's fine)

other news
nothing too exciting to say here really. like I said, after taking a break from work for a few days I'm feeling so much better and I've been so productive the rest of the week! it probably helps that I've been forced to sit in the library for so long that I don't really have many other options than just getting on with work. and I don't have any homework which is nice.
oH ACTUALLY we had our first confirmed positive case of corona that actually affected our bubble - we've had other cases in the year but this girl actually came in while displaying symptoms so tons of people got sent home to isolate just in case. so classes are super quiet at the moment, with some people zooming in. I'm surprised they didn't shut down our whole bubble - is that not the point of having a bubble system in the first place? so far everyone who's isolating due to coming in contact with the positive case seems okay but there's a few of them who, if they do test positive, could get me sent to isolation too. yikes.

FUN BONUS SECTION
having recently done mocks, this next bit is partially for anybody who's kinda stressed about them and partially for me to remind myself of the next time I do them!! (and largely because @Lemur14 told me to)

I hope everyone's had a good week and has a restful weekend. stay safe out there <3

Try not to worry too much about Maths I am sure you did really well regardless  Also I hope the corona situation at your school gets better, the cases are apparently going down

thanks, I'm hoping I at least don't do dramatically worse than the rest of the class :colondollar:and yeah luckily we haven't had too many actual cases, it's just mostly precautionary measures!
hello just discovered your blog can you tag in me in future posts

of course! and I'll have a look at yours now
how the turntables... self isolation week 1!
so y'know how I mentioned last week we had a positive case and people got sent home? I got into school Monday morning and had barely been there 20 minutes (basically the duration of form) before getting sent home because my German teacher tested positive. I last had a lesson with her last Thursday so ordinarily I would've been allowed back on the 5th December. but then that afternoon our entire sixth form got sent home! so at least I'm not isolating alone I guess? so anyway here's my week

maths
on Monday I zoomed in to the lesson while most people were in the physical class, which wasn't great but it was okay. but then obviously after that the entire class joined via zoom while our teacher is chilling alone in the classroom. we started a2 differentiation (sin/cos etc) which is alright, and we're also doing double angle formulae and all that which also is fairly easy just long. some dodgy wifi meant we had some quality chats when the teacher disconnected. but that's irrelevant :colondollar:

biology
managed to miss out on doing our end of topic neuronal communication test! thank god because I had no idea that was even happening :eek4: so I would've failed. I mostly just did revision this week because I didn't virtually join any lessons there and that's what I was told to do - went over some ecology stuff, as well as endocrine communication and some plant stuff. fun. got my mock back though - estimated to be an A! considering how awfully I thought it went in the moment I'm so pleased with that. haven't physically seen the paper so I don't know where I could've improved yet.

german
since obviously my teacher had covid she wasn't really up to setting anything too intense, so all I was told to do was do some IRP research and maybe look over the film/play. so I read a couple of books she'd given me to research for my IRP and I've also been working my way through some grammar, because I have these booklets that I had intended to have done more of by now lol. also got my mock results back - a comfortable A! obviously it was the average of three papers so some aspects were stronger than others but again, I'm really happy with that. and again, haven't seen the physical paper yet obviously.

other news
well I think I kind of covered the "other" in my opening paragraph lol. first week of self isolation done I guess! we have all of next week at home and then we go back on Tuesday 8th. yay. okay but actually I do just want to be back in school. I have mostly stuck to my timetable this week and got the work done that I need to do, but of course we all remember the initial lockdown and how hard it is to motivate yourself to do anything beyond your classwork because you're just sat in your room all day. I am hoping to get a good chunk of stuff done today so that I can have a free weekend. a free birthday weekend, even! not that I can really go anywhere or do anything :sadnod:
hope everyone's staying safe and has a great weekend <3

Spoiler

self isolation is more or less complete! just the weekend + monday before finally getting back into school on tuesday. it really can't come soon enough - I'm starting to go insane. and i've basically given up on being productive outside of lessons because I have no separation between the two at home.

biology
we started looking at plant + animal cloning, which seems like fairly easy stuff? hopefully it doesn't get more intense. I did a lot of this stuff myself just going through the textbook. oh and I had to do the neuronal communication exam questions as a lesson task and they actually weren't too bad. I can't remember what I got though lol. I think we're starting respiration and photosynthesis soon which should be,, interesting.

maths
more live lessons, fun fun fun. pretty sure I was zoned out through half of them though oops. we're still just doing A2 differentiation and we're looking at the alternative method? or something - the one where you end up with like Rsin(x + a). i don't know the name lol but it's quite easily luckily. and we got our grades back for our mock - I *just* scraped a B. as in I got the bare minimum percentage for it lol but considering how awfully I thought it went I'm thrilled with a B. I do want to actually look at the paper though and see wtf I was thinking in the moment.

german
we had a whole one live lesson once my teacher managed to get back into school, and we're starting the actual spec stuff on the Berlin wall and the reunification of Germany. really upbeat stuff. so yeah just focused on the Berlin wall at the moment and how it developed over time. once we're back in school on Tuesday my teacher wants to see our IRP so far and considering mine is just some bare basic notes looks like I uh have some stuff to do over the weekend yikes.

other news
uhh nothing much to report really since i haven't leFT THE HOUSE IN TWO WEEKS. it's fine. really. all jokes aside I know it's what I'm supposed to be doing so I'm not about to break any rules but it's just hard knowing it's not like a full on school closure where every student is stuck at home, most people are still in school living their normal lives even within my school. but enough complaining. i'm gonna watch a dumb christmas romcom this evening with my friends (over discord) and just look forward to being free (ish) again.

year 13 is definitely *intense* so 80% of the time I probably say I'm not enjoying it haha, but at the end of the day I'm taking subjects that I (normally) like and I know at the end of it all I'll hopefully get off to uni so it's pretty good! and I love biology as a subject, I want to take a biology related degree and the content is genuinely interesting but the exams themselves are awful at times lol - you could understand the content perfectly but not write what the markscheme wants so you lose all the marks. but I would definitely recommend it if you're willing to put in the work!!
Well done on getting through your 2 weeks of isolation! I can really relate to struggling to anything except the bare minimum when at home :yep: Best of luck with going back to school on Tuesday :woo:

Hope you enjoyed the Christmas movie and had a good weekend :hugs:

thank you! hopefully school kicks me back into doing actual useful work :s-smilie: and hope you had a good weekend too!
first week back after isolation? completed it mate. it was my busier week of lessons so I've felt kind of like being thrown into the deep end but anyway! we move. I've survived and now there's only one week left before the christmas holidays

biology
we've officially started doing respiration. so far it's fairly easy since we've only done glycolysis and links reaction - even just looking at the Krebs cycle gives me a headache. but at the same time I'm kind of looking forward to doing it? I feel like it's a more interesting topic than some of the other stuff we've been doing. with my other teacher we're looking at plant/animal cloning which so far seems fairly straightforward because a lot of it is similar to GCSE. it also helps that it's kind of interesting

maths
had our last zoom lessons on monday and we're back in person! just in time for one of my teachers to be sent home to isolate because of a case among the canteen staff. but we only miss two lessons with her next week so it's not a massive hit. we've finished the A2 trig content at LAST and we've also pretty much finished A2 differentiation. we've started another mechanics topic now - inclines and forces on a diagonal and all that. i can't remember the proper name. fairly easy so far but really who knows how it'll go from here

german
had a speaking session over zoom on Monday which was,, awkward as usual. back in school we spent basically all our lesson time looking at the textbook topics - we're currently looking at life in the DDR. it's fairly interesting but at the same time it takes so long for her to go over one thing so I'm usually half asleep in the lessons oops. also did a bit of translation etc. exciting.

other
don't think I really have much to say here! it was nice to get back to school and get back into the rhythm of things but equally most of the time I was in school I was in a lesson as opposed to in private study, so I didn't really get much done beyond classwork! but that's okay. next week I have a lot of time stuck in the library so *hopefully* I can get work done ahead of the holidays but at the same time.. it's the last week of term so motivation and energy levels are LOW. outside of school I just drove around a bunch since I can't do much else lol but I just needed to get out of the house after a 2 week isolation.
hope everyone has a good weekend! we're so close to the holidays now, we got this <3 :nutcase:

Spoiler

thank GOD it's the holidays. so needed right now!! getting out of bed has been a real struggle this week because I've just been so exhausted. but we made it. all my lessons were fairly chill this week but here!

biology
with one teacher we just got given some past papers (from the old spec) and were left to our own devices. I haven't actually marked the main one yet so I have no idea how it went but it's definitely showed me what I need to revise more lol. with the other teacher we just got sent exam questions since our lesson got cancelled. so no new content here!

maths
one of my teachers ended up in isolation after a case among the canteen staff so she set some work on differentiation (second derivatives, yikes) and I really don't think I know what's happening. with my other teacher we finished doing forces on a diagonal and it's actually a fairly easy topic, thank god. we did a colour by numbers in our last lesson but we had to actually do AS maths to find the numbers which was.. difficult.

german
we watched a film in our double lesson!! we watched Balloon which was actually really really good (it's about a family who tries to escape the DDR in a hot air balloon - I think it's on BBC iPlayer? would recommend). and it was nice to not have to do actual work. and in our final lesson of the term we just did a translation. fun stuff.

other
nothing interesting to say really! hung out with my friends after school ended which was so lovely, especially since I'm not really able to see them over the next couple of weeks due to being in tier 3. I'm planning on taking the weekend off before getting into my (thankfully not too long) to do list. although I did spend the entirety of this morning cleaning up my room because it ended up in a total state after me not bothering to keep it tidy over this last week.

I hope everyone has a great christmas break! not sure if I'll post a few things on here over the holiday to keep me accountable but if not I'll see you all next year <3

thank you, you too! and of course
Forces on a diagonal is definitely one of the nicer topics in maths

Glad you got to spend time with your friend's - being in tier 3 is awful :sadnod:

Hope you have a wonderful christmas :hugs:

definitely! and the whole tier system is awful really - this time last week we were tier 2 and now i'm stuck in tier 4 :argh:
you too <3
so it's been.. a wild few weeks huh? ended the year complaining about tier 3, ended up in tier 4 over christmas, now here we are in lockdown 3.0 with exams cancelled. more on my feelings about that later..

biology
we're continuing to do respiration with one teacher (which I think i understand? but it's getting progressively harder) and then we're starting photosynthesis with the other teacher so watch me mix everything up. hopefully it's not too bad. over the holidays I made mindmaps of all the chapters we've done so far and linked topics across chapters and I.. don't think it helped me at all. so that was a great use of my time

maths
we're spending lesson time with one teacher just doing the mixed questions for differentiation thank GOD because there's like 42 of them or something insane. with our other teacher we've started doing projectiles and it seems fairly easy but also I don't have a clue what's happening at the same time? it might help if I used my phone less during the lessons I suppose

german
I spent all week super stressed about my IRP, because I only had 4 barely researched points and I thought my teacher would want to see 8 fully researched points by today (because she vaguely implied it in an email). turns out she didn't want to see it so I've been stressed all week for nothing. but I guess at least I've made some progress on it? every time I think I'm making a dent in some research I find another subtopic to look into so it's just neverending really. did some speaking this morning about the DDR which was alright.

other
so... no exams. well, teacher assessed grades I guess? who really knows. i'm glad exams are cancelled because there is no way it would've been a level playing field, but equally there's just so much uncertainty surrounding everything that I don't even know what to think. and online lessons again. the mere thought of this one week online was driving me insane so to now be back to an indefinite amount of time online? I really hate it. basically it's been a rough week but I'm gonna take this afternoon to chill.. and then the weekend to catch up on work yay.
hope everyone is managing okay given the circumstances <3
