How is German A level like?

for the most part I genuinely enjoy taking it! it's definitely a lot to undertake, since obviously you have to have a certain level of knowledge about different cultural parts of Germany *in German, and there's the whole grammar thing that isn't always so straightforward... but in comparison to my other subjects it's arguably more 'chill'. I don't know if this is useful information at all haha, basically it's not easy but I enjoy it so I don't mind spending the time on it

Hello - can you please tag me? :h:

Hi
wow I totally forgot to write this up yesterday so welcome to a saturday post I guess. last proper week of online lessons and oh man am I glad about it. I still have a couple of lives next week - one of my schools goes back on Wednesday so I'll be in person, the other is doing testing next week so lots of lessons have been cancelled due to various timetabling stuff.

biology
we did our presentation and it wasn't that bad honestly, I did most of it but it was fairly chill really, especially because the entire class was doing it on the same topic. with our other teacher we were looking at biotechnology and did some biology maths skills, which in my mind can be so much worse than some aspects of regular maths. but oh well.

maths
we've finished vectors which is nice, it was actually a super easy topic tbh (except for that one bit where there's 3D parallelograms and you're providing evidence for something or other. that sucks). and I've reached the conclusion i literally don't understand A2 integration in the slightest. I think i understand it at first and it seems to make sense, but then the questions get slightly harder and I just have no grip on it. the textbook doesn't explain it all that much so I'm just sort of drowning. does anybody know of any good resources that teach it clearly?

german
I think my teacher said we've pretty much finished the content for this year which is fun! we looked at the reality of life after the reunification of germany and how people felt about it all. also did some textbook work. nothing too crazy really.

other
I pretty much explained in the intro bit everything about going back to school and stuff. I'm glad to be going back because my motivation really cannot handle much more online work, but equally it feels like too much too soon to just send everyone back, y'know? I guess we'll see how it goes. it's also crazy to think how close we are to the end of school - we have mocks the two weeks after easter holidays, and we've provisionally been given an end date of the may half term which is insane. what a weird sixth form experience it's been.

oops another Saturday post, can you tell I can't even find the motivation to type up my week? to be fair, this week I had next to no live lessons due to our school taking the whole week to do testing so it's genuinely felt like half term. which is a problem, because now there's a bunch of work I need to catch up on. but anyway!

biology
okay so since I take biology at a different school I had actual in person lessons this week. it was weird going back, but it was nice to actually be amongst other people and not just sat at my desk on my phone lol. with one teacher we're finishing the genetic stuff, looking at punnet squares and stuff which I like. and with the other teacher we're basically just doing practicals up until easter! exciting stuff

maths
no live maths lessons this week. just did the mixed exercise for A2 vectors which wasn't too bad luckily, and I have half an AS paper to finish (hopefully today). our teacher emailed about mocks and apparently we're learning no new content from now on, which honestly I'm quite glad about - it means integration goes no further!! i'm confused enough as is so I'm super happy about that.

german
also no live lessons here. I was supposed to take the time to work on my IRP a bit more but once again that has been shoved onto today's evergrowing to-do list. in terms of exams she's considering not giving us an essay paper since we did so many essays throughout the course, which I very much have no complaints about. it's going fairly well all things considered

other
I think that's pretty much it? I'm kind of excited to get back fully in person, although more just because my motivation really needs the library right now! I don't think I quite have the mental capacity to be dealing with full on lesson participation. and also interacting with other people.. my friends, great!, but others? can do without them. we've provisionally been given a finish date of May half term so I'm really hoping the government doesn't announce anything to screw with that because it sounds pretty good to me

just realised I've totally forgotten to update this for the last two weeks... completely back in person now and I've just been totally full on with everything!! getting back into regular lessons wasn't necessarily too tough but it's given me a clearer divide between working and taking time off so I've been totally just.. slacking off at home haha. I'll write a proper entry at the end of next week as that's the end of term, for now just a short note that I am in fact alive and just about managing but I have my german speaking test on Thursday so I'm focusing my energy on that at the moment. not tagging for such a small entry but yeah
I’m age 13 does that count?

Hope the transition to completely in-person lessons has gone smoothly and that the German speaking went okay!! :crossedf: :hugs:
from the depths of despair..

haha once again i totally forgot to update so - hello everyone! long time no see! i did indeed spend that entire week working towards (or at least trying to) my german speaking exam. i think it went pretty well! I went slightly over time, which if anything I think is a good sign + my teacher said she was genuinely interested in what I was saying which also bodes pretty well for my grades! still very glad it's over with lol, I'm so glad I didn't decide to hold off until after these holidays otherwise my stress levels would be unbearable.

I don't actually go back to school until tomorrow, at which point I'll start two weeks of 'mocks' which I feel wholly and utterly unprepared for. I've spent so long over these last two weeks thinking about revising, or sitting at my desk and trying to work, but somehow whatever I do just doesn't feel like enough. I guess we'll see how I feel at the end of it but right now I'm excited for it to all be over and done with. I think the thing that's affecting me the most is I have maths + biology both one after the other on the very first day - no easing into it for me.

not structuring this like a normal gyg since I finished all my content in my subjects by the end of last term, and like I said I've just been focusing on revising during these easter holidays! if I'm not totally overwhelmed I'll hopefully do some weekly updates during mocks to see if I'm feeling a little less frazzled than I am right now. I'll have two exams in each subject + I have a couple more maths exams in the last week of term. they cover the harder content but it gives me more time to prepare which I am SO thankful for!!

uni~
I can't remember if I've talked about this before but I've pretty much decided that I'm going to be firming Birmingham to study neuroscience starting in September  part of me cannot bring myself to click that 'firm' button just yet, but I'm going to visit the campus on Saturday and I'm hoping it'll give me the final push to just get it done. I'll probably then insure Exeter, which I actually really love and keep going back and forth over whether I should firm it instead but I think I prefer Birmingham's course, plus the campus is so lovely.

that's all from me folks! I hope everyone is taking care of themselves and staying safe, remember taking breaks is just as important as doing work <3

thank you! and good luck to you too!! :clap2:
we're halfway there...
for once I actually remembered to update vaguely on time, baby steps lmao. it's been one hell of a week but mocks are so close to being over now and I'm feeling a *lot* more chill than I did this time last week when I posted the previous update.

monday - first off was our pure maths exam. it was everything minus integration, differentiation and trigonometry. I don't think it went too bad? like I was able to answer most of the questions, and I'd like to think I got a decent amount of marks. honestly as long as I manage to get at least a B I'll be over the moon. then in the afternoon I had biology, which I also think went okay? I realised an hour beforehand that I had totally neglected to revise an entire chapter but thankfully it didn't come up in that exam.
wednesday - had my german writing exam! we only had to write one essay and I'm pretty sure I totally rambled on and strayed far from the actual question but hopefully there's something of value in there. we've written a bunch of essays throughout the course anyway so I don't think this is actually going to be weighted too heavily.
thursday - stats paper! it was only an hour and only 5 questions so I was hoping it would be fairly chill, but there was a ton of normal distribution which was like the one topic I was hoping to avoid because we learnt it right towards the end of online learning when I had near enough given up on everything. still hoping I managed to scrape enough marks for a B there

tuesday and friday I had study leave, and didn't really get anything too intense done so not going to go into detail there lol. on Saturday I was supposed to go to Birmingham campus for a tour, but due to some car difficulties we only made it 1/3 of the way there before having to turn home </3 wasn't meant to be. I'm still going to firm it soon enough probably, and we'll visit some other time, but I was so excited to finally visit a uni in person. oh well.
only two exams this week, monday and wednesday, and I'm not overly stressed about them so things are looking up!

sorry I feel like this update was all over the place haha. basically it's been an intense week but overall I'm feeling okay about how these exams went, nothing went entirely wrong so i'll celebrate the little things. it's so weird to think we're so close to finishing school forever. hope everyone had a good week and is staying safe! :hugs:

yes I have, it was all very relieving to be done!

and this is the perfect segue into a little summary of the year I suppose. I actually initially typed up a full entry for this gyg back around ~20th May, when I actually finished school, but I accidentally refreshed the page and deleted the whole thing and didn't have the energy to write it all out again so.. here we are a month and a half later with maybe 20% memory of what actually happened. My other german exams went pretty well I think, and although the other maths exams were pretty rough in terms of difficulty we all struggled with them and *fingers crossed* I think I did well enough to at least get a B, which is really all I need to get into uni. since finishing school I have honestly been doing the bare minimum, but I did finally get off furlough so I'm leaving the house to go to work which is a nice bit of routine for me! (even though I'm almost always doing opening shifts so I have to be there at 8am). I managed to actually get down to the Birmingham campus and have a look around and absolutely loved it, and even got to talk to the head of neuroscience and he's such a lovely guy and it was really reassuring to see what I have to look forward to in September! one of the things he mentioned was that I will have to know python for data management so looks like that's my summer plans sorted.

sorry for the big ramble/brain dump but I finally logged on again today and felt bad for kind of abandoning this halfway through my exams. the summary is I think exams went well enough for me to hopefully get the grades I need, and I've firmed Birmingham and insured Exeter for Neuroscience  surprisingly I'm not too nervous about results day, partially because I've chosen to just not think about it at all and partially because I know there's nothing I can do now to change my grades so it's not worth stressing about.

not tagging anybody since this is a total word vomit, but thanks everyone for sticking around! I'll probably be back around results day, either to celebrate getting into uni or to have a meltdown.
well, we did that...

popping in for the final time for a quick post results day update! quite frankly tsr has been very far from my mind lmao but here we are, only two days after results day for the final update. I did indeed manage to secure my place at Birmingham thank goodness, needed AAB and got A*AB (the B being maths, bane of my existence, and A* german which I'm so pleased with). now the whole university thing is starting to feel Very Very real, especially since I was allocated my accommodation so I've been finding my flatmates! scary to think it's only about a month until I move in.

I think that's all there is to say now, really. I might do a gyg next year since I do think this helped me stay vaguely on track, at least at the beginning of the year - if I do I'll try not to abandon it in the final weeks again! thank you all for sticking around and to anybody that also got results this year, I hope it went the way you wanted. see you around <3
