OFFICIAL POST #6 - Out with the old, in with the new...
Hi everyone! I hope you're all okay and doing well
. Thought I'd pop in to let you know the story of results day and all that jazz!
Sooo...what happened on results day? Everything!
I woke up around 7:30 because it turned out that my biological clock decided to give me an extra hour of anxiety, but I just had some juice and decided to go with the flow. I wanted to check Track first, just so I could see the situation with unis before I made any other steps. I log into Track at 8:30 aaaaand...nada. Nothing. The site was down for about 15 minutes for me and I figured it was because everyone was logging on at the same time.
I was fine until I opened my results, which were *insert drum roll*:
Okay. Well. That’s new. Considering I was predicted AAB and I didn’t think I entirely flopped the May mini exams, I seriously thought that worst case scenario would be BBB. Boy, was I wrong!
For those of you that don’t know, my firm university (first choice) was SOAS, who’s requirement were relaxed to AAB because of the disruptions COVID-19 made. City was my insurance university (second choice) and they had given me a conditional offer of BBB. The C in History had me freaking out thinking I’d got into neither and since Track wasn’t updating (we’d reached about 9:30am at this point), I assumed it was just a glitch whilst I was being moved into Clearing.
Then started the frantic Clearing phone calls
. I started with London South Bank University, the unconditional offer I declined in place of City, who generously gave me a place since I exceeded their clearing requirements. London Metropolitan, Westminster and Greenwich soon followed, and I PMed
@04MR17 in the midst of my nervous breakdown (shoutout to MR by the way, what an absolute legend for PMing me back quickly and keeping me calm!).
I was juggling calls whilst trying to contact City through clearing, since their Clearing requirements were CCC. I exceeded these and gave it a shot through their online system, but it wasn’t working…
@04MR17 told me that this glitch usually occurred when the firm university wanted to change their offer and he was right! I was on the line with UCAS when my Track changed - SOAS was offering me another course! It turns out they wanted to offer me Business, Management, Economics & Law with Foundation Year. This was kind of them, but I had my heart set on the LLB for a while now and I wasn’t too keen on taking up the Business/Econ side of things, especially if I had offers for LLB elsewhere. Sadly, I declined SOAS. UCAS then let me know my account was being extra glitchy, but I had a place at City who turned my offer unconditional!
So…your girl is off to do Law (LLB) at City, University of London!
Side note: To future years reading my story, please do not stress like I did! Results Day is usually a lot less stress than mine was. Also, the people on the Clearing helplines are AMAZING at knowing what to say to keep you calm should your results not go as expected. It’s #YourPathYourFuture!
How do I feel about my grades?Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for the grades I achieved. It’s not what I expected but I’m happy I was able to go somewhere I had on my preferred list, despite it not being my first choice. I’m a tad disappointed in some of the grades though and I certainly wasn’t expecting History to go how it did. I decided not to resit or appeal as it would apparently risk my university place, but I’ve been told that if I do well in university, it should trump the grades I received now. If anything, I want this blog and my results day story to be a reminder that there is no “end of the road” - there are ALWAYS opportunities ahead of you. Don’t give up!
What’s next?- I’m off to university and a new academic journey, so that calls for a new GYG! I’ll be making one in the next few weeks, so please let me know if you want to be tagged in the new blog.
- I’m going to continue taking piano lessons and exams during uni, or at least for first year!
- I also am planning on taking French lessons at City, so I’ll keep you posted on how that goes
*French emoji*
- Since I live in London and City’s campus is, well, in the City, I’m getting a new job in my local area as a tutor in a tuition centre, teaching primary/secondary school students English Literature and Language! Looking forward to teach my second love hehe
These bullet points are the ones I’m certain on, but knowing my life there’s no doubt there’ll be surprises on the way, so make sure you stay tuned to the new blog or my personal thoughts blog for the bREaKinG neWs
.
