i'm pretty sure u can use whatever car you want to do your test in and i am sure i have seen instructors with smart cars.
So long as it's not an automatic (in which case you'll only get an auto licence)

Can it be a friends car? or does it have to be specially insured or something?

thanks.

also how many lessons do i need cause my tests a month away, and i havent started yet

You will need lessons or you will need ot know what the inspectors are looking for.
If you have been driving around with other people you could have easily developed bad habits (the way you pass the wheel through your hands, not covering the clutch, holding the gear stick too long, not showing that you are using your mirrors enough...that one is very easy to fail on..you can use mirrors without moving your head but the examinor needs to know you are using them)

Back to the original question.
Yes, you can use Smart Cars since my friend used his Samrt Forfour for his practical exam.

Wouldnt it be sooooo much easier? these babies are like toys

yes, as long as its manual and you're insured/taxed to drive it
Could you use a train?
They don't have gears, the crusie control will take it to and hold an exact speed, you don't have mirror checks .....

Actually, they do have gears otherwise they wouldn't be able to gain and maintain their high-speeds.
It's just that they're automatic.

I'm not you sure can use the ickle smart as I'm fairly sure they all have semi auto paddle shift gear boxes.
However you could use a manual smart fourfour if they exist.
