it's a beautiful park! thank you :hugs: hope you're doing okay?

i had to double check i didn't accidentally keep you on the list :ninja:
it's so beautiful isn't it :gah:
yeah i was hoping to do weekly updates for consistency but it's been very very busy here
all of us tested negative bar 2 who had symptoms and we've all finished isolating now :yep:
i think i'm just finding it a bit hard because it's early days, i'm hoping in a few weeks i won't be as overwhelmed!
why am i not surprised :teehee:
ooh i did enjoy relationships! you learn about lots of different proposed models for the breakdown and formation of relationships (all i can remember is duck's model off the top of my head) but i found it all interesting and relatively straightforward
i'm a terrible dancer too :five: probably bc i'm too self conscious as well

been very busy writing my practical report, essay and doing my gazillion readings :colondollar: i'm okay though! hopefully an update will come... soon:lol:
hope you're doing okay :hugs:
whoops it's been well over a month since i've updated- i travelled back home on the 10th and im going back to cardiff the 9th of january so i'm writing this from england!! how strange. i've been typing up this update for ages ah sorry and i've been so busy back home- i turned 19 on the 29th december :awesome:
happy new year and hope yall had a good christmas if you've celebrated it :lovehug:

anyway that's first semester done  exams in january which im not looking forward to at least they're open book and online

ps1014 - psychological research
most of the lectures on this have been pretty good. had one lecturer who didn't seem to talk about her research very much or rather vaguely so was a bit annoying but was fine when i read up her journal article thing after the lecture. we've looked at cognitive dissonance in rats, research distortion in the media, environmental psychology, sleep and memory, immediate memory capacity, life and death decision making and brain plasticity.
also this one lecturer didn't realise you could mute everyone and never did so she was constantly interrupted by noises from people who were unmuted

ps1016 - introduction to psychology
learnt a lot here oh boy um from the top of my head some of the stuff we've looked at has been intergroup relations, changing attitudes, schizophrenia, eating disorders, brain parts, perception, illusions.
did a summative essay on whether stereotypes are useful or wasteful and i got 68 which i think is a 2:1

ps1018 - research methods
research design

nonacademic stuff
i went to an ultimate frisbee tryout session which seems like eons ago (did i talk about this in my last post cannae remember it's beem too long) anyway i quite enjoyed it even though i was abysmal. i do want to take up some sort of casual sport though so i think i'll stick with it especially as the membership isn't too expensive. i bought a frisbee a while ago and have been practicing w some friends when i was in cardiff so i like to think ive marginally improved but now i'm back home i'm just going to try and work on my throws bc they're still spinny and aren't good 80% of the time :colondollar: also i still dont understand the rules of the game lol
i went on runs 2-3x a week when i was in cardiff so that was lovely :h: saw some lovely sunrises and skies in the park in the morning!! don't really lke running in the area back at home so i switched back to home workouts for now.
also i applied for a volunteering scheme where you help delievr mental health workshops and my application got accepted :woo: training starts in january but i think we're at a higher alert level now in wales than we were before so fingers crossed it still goes ahead.

how have i found first semester?
there have been some days where i just felt really isolated and overwhelmed with many worries- i do not like online learning but i have been attending all my lectures on time which i'm proud about and making notes as i go along. i think i'd have made more friends if lectures were in person definitely but i've made friends with some people outside my flat and that's all that matters  still need to try and be more social next semester though:colondollar: im very thankful i got the flatmates i have right now as we all get along really well:h: the massive park near me has been a blessing when i just need to get out the residences for a bit, im missing it back home as the parks here are shite
i've tried a lot of new things and tried to push myself out my comfort zone which is good though i wonder all the time what it'd have been like if there was no covid-19. the workload is a lot but most of it has been ok to understand conceptually thankfully. second semester of first year (after jan exams) counts 10% towards our final degree classification here so hoping i do well next semester!! (and update more frequently)

also final thing i love the album evermore by taylor swift. hope you're all doing well

Ah yeah I remember doing the power of a test in further maths, it is something that you need to concentrate on for a bit to really get. I just remembered it as being 1 - P(type 2 error); like, what's the probability the test itself can tell that the null hypothesis is wrong if it is. I think. It's been a while.

Seems like things haven't gone that badly given the circumstances!
so happy that uni is working out well for you manu
