I'm at Birkbeck, albeit a PG in languages.

Are you thinking of applying for the BSc in Biomedicine at Birkbeck?

It's best that you are aware that Birkbeck's teaching is largely in the evenings. This allows students to work during the day and, for this reason, they tend to be a little older than the students you would find elsewhere.

Why?

Birkbeck itself says:

"We are a specialist provider of face-to-face evening higher education, with 67% of our full-time and 93% of part-time undergraduate entrants over the age of 21. Younger students under 21 are almost exclusively on full-time programmes. The mean age of a Birkbeck undergraduate entrant is 28."

Thanks for this info. I was mainly concerned about full-time student and campus life as most classes will be in the evenings. I will be a full-time undergrad applicant and choosing between Westminster and Birbeck. I like that Birbeck will give me a UOL degree but concerned that there will be very little student interaction at my age.

Ask the university about your specific course and concerns.

But note that "interaction" will be different now anyway due to Coronavirus...

Something it's best that you know is that Birkbeck doesn't have a campus, not in the way that you would understand a campus to be.

Birkbeck is in a part of London where there are several educational institutions, UCL is nearby and there are others.

The main admin building for the University of London as a whole is Senate House, which is in Malet Street, near Tottenham Court Road.

There is a big enclosed space next to Senate House; the borders of the square are formed by the School of Oriental and African Studies, Birkbeck's main building and Student Central, a big building which is the Students' Union for the University of London. Birkbeck has additional buildings in Russell Square and Gordon Square.

The whole area is one big swirl and when you walk down Malet Street you are passing people from various colleges and members of the public.

You would see most people going into Birkbeck's buildings between 5 and 6 pm.

As far as I can see, you are currently studying somewhere in the US and would be coming to London to study.

I would recommend Birkbeck to virtually anyone but, I think, for someone like you, coming from abroad for the daytime 'student experience', Birkbeck wouldn't be the right choice.

I have to say that, if you want the traditional campus experience, you might prefer somewhere like Royal Hollloway, which is just outside London; if you really want to be in Central London, you might like Kings or UCL.

At those places, you would see a lot of other students at your college during the day; at Birkbeck, you would only see a few.
