dunno what its like now but I know that back when I applied (02/03) the accommodation for 1st year undergrads opened up on 1/3/03. Hence I applied that night and ended up getting my first choice (arthur vick).

As far as I can see from the website, you cannot apply for accommodation yet. The University will notify you when you can apply online (they organise all their accommodation through the Warwick Accommodation website), and I expect it will be a while before you can - they haven't even finished giving out offers yet! I would be a little surprised if you would be able to apply in February - though that's not to say it won't happen! I certainly wouldn't worry about applying after you visit - they're rather disorganised so probably won't actually even look at applications for several months yet!

Hey I put "would enjoy socialising" and "bedtime around midnight" (in practise, maybe once or twice) as well. Also, "would appreciate peace and quiet if needed". :P And something about my hobbies and sports.

I think being an int'l student helped a bit in getting my 1st choice though.

So AV is typically seen as a quiet, studious area?
Reply 8
it can be VERY quiet in comparison to some halls as it is possible to just lock yourself in your room and not be seen for a while (whereas in rootes etc you have to share toilets, showers etc so you tend to see people a bit more often).

However, this disadvantage is outweighed by the fact that AV is pretty good if you get yourself into a good kitchen and additionally the rooms are spacious and have ensuites.

Apparently, like a hotel and even nicer than Arthur Vick. But it's mainly postgrads and if you want a good social life I wouldn't recommend it, I don't think it's that lively.

there are a few undergrads at lakeside but hardly any.. really nice rooms but u really dont want to be there in ur first year - quite far from central campus which is a BIG nono...
i reckon AV is as far away as u want to be.. and thats only a 5 min walk from the union.. u tend to get quite lazy in ur first year cz ur so used to everything being on ur doorstep! a 10 min walk and ur like 'uuurrrghhhh thats so long i cant b bothered'

tbh wen applying for accom i wud go for AV or rootes depending on the type of person u are. if u want to socialise then apply for rootes. dont even consider applying anywer else! if u want a more quiet student life go for AV.
dont let the ensuite sway u too much wen it comes to decision making!

the only difference between lakeside and av is that lakeside rooms are more of a square shape than the av rooms (which are rectangular). Both are pretty much the same size.

Also lakeside is split into flats, while av is corridors. Meaning you meet more people in av. Additionally lakeside is more popular with international students than arthur vick is.

Basically if you REALLY want ensuite and don't mind a 40 week contract, apply for lakeside- you're almost guaranteed to get it. If you don't mind taking a gamble as to whether you want ensuite or not, apply for AV with the second choice being rootes.

could we mayb have a list of the accomodation and wot is the general vibe around there... ie like arthur vick being a studious place... would b v v helpful

Lakeside is quite a trek, my friend lives there and it feels like being on a ship according to someone - its how it looks he says. Kitchens had some lime green and blue thing going on I think.

So Arthur Vick is the place to be...

Can I specify AV as 1, and Lakeside as 2 ?

Thanks for your help puddings..

There's an interesting selection of people on this thread...most warwick students would not say arthur vick was the best place to live yet here that seems to be the general consensus! I think most people would say rootes was "the place to be". AV is a bit of a gamble...you can get a really lovely kitchen but sometimes it can be very boring there and I know several people who live/have lived there and were quite miserable and lonely. there's also the cost issue - it's about £30 a week more! But if you so wish, you can put AV first and lakeside 2nd. You'll probably need parental help/a lot of savings to pay for it, I'm living only off my loan but I doubt you can do that if you live there.

I think you can only put down one ensuite preferance.

I'm perfectly happy where I am, but if I had to choose again I'd go for Whitefields - cheaper plus great studenty atmosphere. Everyone I know living there seems to love it.
I was just wondering, is it worth putting Universities which you will have to stay in halls for Insurance??

I live in London, and people are telling me its better to put a London University as an Insurance!! Heard putting down Universities outside London, such as Warwick, will mean i will end up in a crap accomodation!!

Any truth in this?
Any tips/advice will be much appreciated!

I have heard that that's true, at almost all universities. They will always cater for those who put them as their firm offer first.
