I can't believe we've already reached the end of one term. This year is going by scarily fast. Thankfully I haven't got too much homework for half term so it gives me time to study the things that I need to work on and also gives me time to finish my History NEA and work on my university application.

I know right. It's the not knowing what's going to happen that scares me

So we're now well into the second term. It's going so fast. My personal statement is finished now, so I'm sending off my application hopefully sometime in the next week. I took a bit of a break from updating so that I could focus on my PS and my coursework, but I'm back now. Today someone in my year unfortunately tested positive for COVID, so some people in my year have been sent home. I haven;t been sent home so hopefully it hasn't spread beyond that one person.
Geography:
In physical Geography we're onto our final topic for year 2 which is the Carbon Cycle. In Human Geography we;re on Superpowers still and we have one more topic left, because in year 12 we would have more physical than human lessons whereas in year 13 we have more human than physical lessons, I'm still working on my Geography NEA but it;s all going well so I'm not worried at the moment
History:
We seem to be going through the second year content at a good pace. In Wars of the Roses we've got onto Edward's death and Richard, Duke of Gloucester, In our Russia lesson we've been looking at Stalin's education and cultural changes. Today our teacher wasn't in so we wrote an essay that she set us yesterday on the implementation of economic reforms between 1917 and 1941.
Maths:
We;re on the final statistics topic but we're splitting it into 3 so we don't spend months on one topic and forget mechanics content, IN pure we've been looking at trigonometric identities

top tips surrounding mocks or coursework ( @Lemur14 )
I'm going to give advice on coursework:
My number one piece of advice would be to make sure you don't leave all your coursework to the last minute. Instead, dividing it up and working on a bit each week will be efficient and will allow you to create a higher quality piece of work and will make things less stressful. It will also help you finish sooner which will give you more time to focus i studying for the final exam.

Best of luck with sending your ucas application off and glad to hear your geography coursework is going well (and some top advice too!)

Hope you have a good weekend :hugs:
Wow you’re almost done with geography?? I think we’ve still got 1.5 left  When’s your deadline for NEA? Ours is on the 14th Dec :hide:
Stay safe :hugs:

Hi :wavey: please can I have a tag?

Do you prefer human or physical geography? I definitely prefer human - we’ve just finished learning about migration which was such a cool topic

Also love the title!

Becca I was about to tag you here  a fellow bird for you
congrats on winning the November competition can you please tag me in future posts
09/12/2020

So we're nearly at the end of term 2. This year went so fast and I can't believe we're nearly in 2021 and nearly at the end of my time at school.
I submitted my UCAS application this weekend and I've applied for Sociology at UEA, Keele, Nottingham Trent, Lincoln, and York St John's. I got an offer for Lincoln on Monday, and they want 112 UCAS points/BBC so I'm happy that I have at least one offer.

Maths
This subject is going alright at the moment. I haven't had as much time for it recently because of geography and history NEA's but once they're out of the way this next week I'll have more time to focus on it. This Friday we have an end-of-term test in Pure and next Tuesday we have one for Stats and Mechanics so I'll be spending time tomorrow and at the weekend revising for them.

Geography
My NEA deadline is this Friday so I've been reading through it and been trying to see if there are any areas where I can make some more in-depth analysis and what can be done to improve it but I'm pretty happy with the work I have produced. We're also nearly at the end of the Superpowers topic in Human Geography which is good. Hopefully, we get the course finished on time because in year 12 we didn't have as many Human Lessons as Physical so we were slightly behind. In Physical, we've been working on the Carbon Cycle, but last week we did a 20 mark question on the Water Cycle. I got 12/20 on it which although it's not what I'd hoped, was an improvement from year 12 when I would often score less than 10 so I'm glad that I'm making progress

History
Again, my NEA deadline is coming up for next Thursday, the last day of term. It's pretty much done, and once my Geography NEA has been handed in I'm going to complete the final source analysis improvements that I need to do. With Wars Of The Roses, we're near the end of the course now which is good, and in Russian History, we've just finished the chapter on Soviet Life.

AAHHH first update in over two months. I hope you are all healthy and had a good Winter Break. I was just intending on Posting in January but then school moved online and I took a break because the past two months have been so chaotic and crazy. School is starting again on the 8th March and in some ways it's good but in other ways, it's so stressssful. We're supposed to be doing mack exams two weeks after we go back and that is actually the worst and I have loads of revision to do. I'm hoping the confirmation with what's going to happen with our grades comes this week

I've got all 5 university offers now but I haven't firmed one yet. I'm waiting to see how the next few weeks go and if things go well I'm probably going to firm UEA and put York St Johns as my insurance.

xx

18/04/2021 40 Days until the Last Day of Sixth Form

Since we're about to begin the last term I thought I'd give a big update as to what's going on

The Exam Situation
So we took mock exams last term, I did 3 papers for Maths, 2 for Geography, and 2 for History. My school decided that they're going to use the papers provided by the exam boards so we should be sitting them over a period of two weeks when we go back. It's a bit annoying because the school hasn't given us a timetable yet so I don't know exactly when they are. My mocks went okay, but they can only give provisional grades for them because I go to a joint sixth form and they have to moderate with the other two schools to make sure the marking is fair across the board. My provisional grades were bordering on B's which is what I need for my firm, which is kind of annoying because I ran out of time on most of my exams so I really need to practice writing quickly for these next exams.

University
I got all 5 offers back a while ago and last week I firmed UEA for sociology, and I need BBB or ABC. I'm really hoping I get this because I really loved the online open days and the course is really good in the second and third years allowing you to take modules in other schools on campus e.g. Law, Geography, Education. My insurance is York St John's, which again I liked the uni and found the online open day interesting

School With Covid Restrictions

Obviously, we have to now wear masks in class, but my school has been really good with the home testing kits. We got given plenty, and we're supposed to do two a week so I've been doing mine on Sundays and Wednesdays. Since some of the restrictions have been lifted I haven't really done that much although last week I did meet a few of my friends in the park and we sat and talked, other than that I haven't done much during the Easter holidays.

After Sixth Form

I haven't got any summer plans yet. I need to have a big clear out of my room though and I'll need to shop for things to take with me to uni. I'm not sure what else I'll be doing though. My school said we can leave from the 28th of May but a lot of my friends do different courses and don't finish until later so I'm not really sure what to do with a three-month break.
