Normal periods? Should I be worried?

Got my first period at 11 and had no problems
Almost exactly a year later I started getting cramps with my periods that were so bad I’d vomit and be totally out of action for a day.
Then I found that if I took a full dose of ibuprofen and paracetamol as soon as I got the first spot of blood that my cramps would only be mild.
Then when I was 15 I became severely depressed and my periods got messed up. They’d been quite regular but this threw them off. This made it really difficult to manage as my usual take X when Y happens didn’t work. I kind of just struggled through it, some months were bearable and others I’d have to take a day or so off.
Then just before I turned 18 I became sexually active. I went on the pill but reacted awfully to it (depression) so opted for a copper iud. I got it inserted end of January. The insertion was completely fine, they were really surprised at how little I reacted.

8 months later and my periods look like this:
5-7 days of spotting with cramps
Then 7ish day period with cramps for the first day or so

The cramps are sharp and I can clearly feel each contraction. They’re about 10 seconds long during which I’m wincing, holding my breath and unable to move. Then they fade away until the next contraction comes. This month I’ve had these cramps on and off for a week! I’m using hot water bottles, ibuprofen and cocodamol but even with all of that it still hurts quite a lot.

Sex is not painful nor is going to the toilet although my poos do tend to be a bit funny on my period. My aunt has endometriosis but otherwise nothing in the family that I’m aware of.

Any ideas as to what might be going on and what I can do about it? I really don’t mix well with hormones hence opting for the copper iud. I’m not currently in a relationship so I could get the iud removed but this might lead to getting another in 6 months time depending on how life goes or I may not need it for years (unfortunately I don’t know if any lovely men are due to be coming my way)

I conpletely understand what your going through, I've been in a hell of a journey with my periods and the best advice I could give is going to the doctors. The first thing they'd probably offer you is contraceptive pills which are proven to help ease the pain, but if this doesn't work you should continue going, and they'd give you something strong to take, like naproxen, and maybe give you a pelvic examination or further tests or reffer you to a specialists. there are alot of illnesses linked to severe period pains so its important they make sure you dont have any.

And yes, get the IUD removed, it does seem to be related to severe period pains.

other than going doctors, from your own side id say make sure your doing exercise and maintaining a healthy diet, as alot a food can affect your period.

Once again, this is all from experience, hope this somewhat helps
