This is one I wrote for AS English - it achieved Band 4 and got a mark somewhere in the range of 16-20 out of 20. I got A in English Lit AS-level.

Chaucer, that was painful.

I like 'The Miller's Tale' which is what we did. We had a fun teacher though

We did that too, but our teacher was painfully lethargic and boring. I only got 84/120 for that exam which was my all-time English low sadly.

I've attached a John Clare (poetry) essay from A2 English Lit which got 18/20 if I recall. It's quite short but holds a good example.

It was rather. Perhaps I ought to have put a warning alongside my essay -*may bring up bad memories* or *contents may be offensive*
Apologies for any displeasure caused.

Ditto! I got 84/120 too - scraped a B for that unit. Luckily I got 83/90 and 90/90 in my other units.

Haha well... actually, now everything's finished with my A-levels I actually quite like The Miller's Tale. English Lit kind of ruined the texts we had to study with the pressure of having to know them inside out.

Yep, 120/120 and 90/90 this summer saved my butt pretty much.

I hated the Millers Tale, I didn't even finish it in the exam, but AMS saved my butt big time

We did the Franklin's Tale...loved it!
EDIT: forgot to type this bit! My teacher had something against computers and refused to let us type ANYTHING all year. "You're not going to have a computer in the exam, so you're not going to type any of your essays for me!" etc etc. I have a writing bump on my finger now. It shall forever remind me of Chaucer and Shakespeare's As You Like It :P

I think AMS is the reason I did so badly in that exam. It was sooo boringgg.

I can post an A2 past paper of mine, if yas want. It got an A, overall.

We've still got to start Chaucer. I've bought the Merchant's Tale but am reluctant to even be seen carrying it, let alone opening it up and trying to read the damn stuff. Any tips before I start?

Don't be put off by the scare factor, use the glossary, and read it out loud...it's easier to understand at first if you hear it  You'll get used to it, so don't worry!

Also get a york notes guide. I would have written nothing if it wasn't for that

okeydokes, my measure for measure essay from A2. It was an A, quite a solid A, although not full marks quite obviously. hopefully this might allay people's A2 fears!

Agreed, but I got an A without writing any practice essays.
