One person has been killed and seven left wounded in a stabbing rampage last night in Birmingham city centre. The perpetrator is still being hunted by police.

The first stabbing was in Constitution Hill at 00:30 BST before the killer moved south, apparently attacking at random. The attacker went on to stab people in Livery Street (00:40 BST), Irving Street (01:52 BST) and finally in Hurst Street (about 02:20 BST).

West Midlands Police said that the stabbings did not appear terrorism related, gang related or connected to disorder. Murder inquiry detectives have said they are hunting a single suspect. Anyone with CCTV or mobile footage has been urged to get in touch.

According to reports, some attacks happened in Birmingham's gay village.

Hooded individual, probably a male, seen running away from the seen.

Knife recovered down a drain, but it's unclear whether it was the weapon used.

I have no faith that WMP will catch them. They are so incompetent that they think searching drains (doing their job) is somehow evidence of how great they are.

The religion of peace strikes again
There is no indication this was religiously motivated, nor do we know the perpetrator was religious.

My friend's family have been attacked so many times in Birmingham I wouldn't even drive through that city.

In my town in the wilds of Eastern Europe noone has ever heard of so many incidents even when the real Russian mafia was literally living next door.

It isn't a bad city, I live there for 2 years without any issues. Less than 5 minutes from Hurst Street in fact.

I have not seen any reporting of the nationality of the 27-year-old arrestee.

Nothing but rumours linked to another random knife attack earlier in the year carried out by someone who looks suspiciously similar.
