Good to know. Is this for Aero?

Yep, should have probably mentioned that in my last reply!

Anyone firmed Southampton for Aeronautical Engineering (Meng)?
I am confused between which one to firm and insure between Southampton and Loughborough. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Loughborough seems to focus a lot on sports and the “student experience” so I guess if that’s more of your thing Loughborough could be a better choice. Personally I firmed Southampton today (for NatSci not Aeronautical engineering) and in doing so I rejected my offer from Loughborough. I did a guided tour of Loughborough in august and my tour guide was a aeronautical engineering student she said the course was great and I think something about how you learn all the stuff on the engineering course and also get to be a specialist in aeronautics. Personally the course I applied for seemed less interesting at Loughborough than Southampton (the proportions just seemed all wrong half core skill modules and half studying what I’m interested in) which was a big reason why I went with Southampton. Also the sports focus put me off, the tour guide did her final year project on rowing blades or something which made me think about how important sport is to so many people there. I guess I just realised even though it’s a really popular university it just wasn’t the right fit for me. I saw in a group chat they’re starting to do campus tours again at Loughborough so that might help you with your decision making.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and sounds like a good idea to do the uni's tours.
Firmed southampton for aerospace engineering 😊

I firmed the Aeronautics and Astronautics at Southampton but for the BEng.

You can't really go wrong with either. I will say that the Southampton course has at least a couple of modules on spacecraft, something that's notably absent from Loughborough's course (apart from one option in year 3, and idk about year 4 it wasn't on my agenda). The offer holder day at Southampton sold me; the students seemed really down to earth and it helped that the academic running it was amazing and happened to specialise in the field I'm looking to go into.

It would be wrong of me to not talk about the negatives though. I've heard that the first year of the southampton course is a bit disorganised (I don't know how true this is), and also I know for a fact that first year maths is entirely self taught. They just give you a textbook and throw you in the deep end (I suppose you'll have to get used to this eventually so might as well do it in first year where nothing actually matters). This probably isn't a big deal if you've done further maths as you will have already done like half of it, but hooo boy looking at the spec it would be a very interesting time if you haven't. It wasn't anything horrendously complicated; we're not worrying about partial differential equations or anything until year 2 (where we'll get a maths lecturer), but it looks like it will take a good amount of elbow grease to get through that module.
I firmed Southampton for Physics with Astrophysics a couple of weeks ago so if there's anyone else doing that, hiii!
Hello, I am Dennis, I've just firmed soton for electrical & electronics engineering, any1 else? Also, I am wondering how hard is it to transfer to meng from beng.

You can withdraw applications to the unis that aren't responding, but I wouldn't recommend it. There's no rush; whether you firm them now or next month makes no difference. Maybe you'll want to hold one of the other places as insurance.

Yes you can firm Southampton whenever you’re ready. You will have to withdraw from the other universities you haven’t received responses from on your UCAS list. Keep your firm and insurance choices. Follow the instructions on UCAS. It’s fairly straightforward.
Hello potential comrades, I have an offer from UoS for Aerospace Electronic Engineering Beng, predicted A*A*A*A. But in all seriousness, I will probably miss one of the A* oh well who cares. Soooo anyone that is currently in a stem field (particularly engineering) that could share his/her experience? That would be much appreciated! I would also love to hear more stories about people currently applying to UoS! have a nice day
So I just butchered my exams. Waving goodbye to Southampton

Hopefully it’ll be okay, you won’t know for sure until results day and even then not getting into Southampton isn’t the end of the world!
Hi just wanted some recommendations for which Accommodation Hall would be best for Engineering students?

Don’t think being an engineering student makes much difference really. We’re on a different campus, yes, but it’s basically next door to highfield. Personally I rate glen eyre but it’s personal preference tbh
I'm trying to decide between History or Film and History joint honours at Soton. Which I should firm? Really not sure, can anyone offer advice. I prefer history but really love the film modules & joint honours is 50:50 right?
Hi everyone!
I am a current computer science student here at Southampton, thought I would pop in to distract myself from deadlines by answering any questions anyone had about student life here or the department.

Ok, I am also here to sneakly plug the discord server we setup for prospective ECS students, feel free to join it if you want (chat to other students, ask questions etc)

Hi everyone, my offer has been changed to be unconditional at UCAS recently. Do you know whether and when the university would send the official email and tell what to do next? Thanks!
