One of my friends at uni (girl) studies computer science and she said there’s more girls than she was expecting. The majority of students will probably be boys but I highly doubt you’ll be the only girl. Even if you are, don’t let it put you off!

Keep in mind that your CompSci classes will only make up a small portion of your time. Even if the class is mostly boys, you'll have plenty of opportunities to mix with other people in your accommodation, at societies, nights out, other social events, etc. Within reason of course with COVID and all

I doubt you'll be the only female on the course. Female representation in CS courses at university is much better compared to at A-level.

I am currently studying CS with maths and there are quite a few girls in the CS course. In the CS with maths course, around 40% are girls. I go to a different uni than Queen Mary's but I highly doubt you will be the only girl.

And yeah, at A level there was only one CS girl in my year too, but it gets better at uni. and as others said, even if you are unhappy with the gender ratio in your course, you wont be spending all your time in class.

You'll be able to socialise, you just need to do so responsibly. There may be additional restrictions, classes may be online, etc. It's not going to be the "traditional uni experience" but it's also not going to be "total lockdown, by yourself, no chance of socialising".

Hey what's the problem with being the only girl, hm? I'm sure you can make friends with boys - sometimes they're easier to be friends with as they're more about the bond and less about the ongoing gossip! I have quite a few male friends and sometimes it's nice to have a mix. I have a friend who was the only girl in GCSE computer science but she ended up befriending a lot of boys and became part of multiple friendship groups which worked out for her!
Thanks guys for all the advice and support. Will definetely take into account on what each and everyone you has said. Enjoy your day

You won't be. Studied Computer Science at QM for the first year, there were actually a lot more females than I expected.

Have you got any updates yet? for the cs course as I am attending qmul too this month, literally a surprise every morning on the uni email. Plus even the lab being online kind of annoying.
