Should I take History or Business Studies IGCSE

Should I take History or Business Studies IGCSE? I would like to specialise in one of the three Sciences as a career, and people say that Business Studies is easier although you write a lot. Also, I've never tried Business Studies before. On the other hand I like History and some people also say that History builds up your analytical thinking skills, but you do need to work really hard and write essays. I'd appreciate any help,Thanks!

History is regarded as more valuable by universities than business as business is easily learnt and a common course in uni but at IGCSE level I don't really think they'll take it into account. I missed the first year of GCSEs and took history so I had a lot to catch up on but I was fine in the end.

It also depends on what type of person u r. If you get overwhelmed easily maybe take business as it will be less stressful especially close to exams to ensure you do well in ur science exams. If you can cope then do history. Idk exactly how much writing business has but history has quite a lot as well. I would have to do almost a whole exam paper every week for homework which was a drag. I do think u learn analysis skills from history .

I know this is an annoying answer but choose what u prefer. History is more interesting but it's more work (it's more rewarding though). If u don't think you'll use any of those subjects in A-levels and u want to focus on the sciences take business ( also business is more maths but history is more English so play to ur strengths)

Hope this helps!

No, it's not annoying! I really wanted an honest opinion of someone who knows the difference and can tell me the pros and cons. Thanks, this really helps!

Hi! I know I'm not who you asked for, but I just wanted to give my two cents (as someone who asked this question and kinda tried both)

History does indeed have tons of things that you need to memorise in great detail. You also need to be able to convey your thoughts quickly and clearly due to the tough time restraints they have during the exams (your teacher should help you practice this, so don't worry).
I ended up choosing Business, attended a few lessons, and then swapped it for History. While Business is easier, I found it kinda dull as I wasn't interested in the topics, and History was much more interesting for me.

I recommend that you go for Business if you get easily overwhelmed. But if you like History more, then go for it. I think it only really matters if you plan to take one of them for A-Levels

I’m fairly knowledgeable on both ,and I know you’ve already picked, but in my experience, I’d say history was the right choice. I do 2 essay based a level subjects and 2 sciences and I can definitely say-the gcse that best prepared me for all of my a levels was history . The essay writing, the analytical, the sheer amount of revision and hard work, really is helping me right now in all my subjects .
