Ethernet ports on laptops? Do i need it for uni?

Hi I don’t know much about computers but I just want to know what the point of this is on a Laptop. Do I need this Ethernet cable to connect to WiFi? I am planning on taking my laptop to uni campus quite often and they have free WiFi.

Not a dumb question at all, you won't need an ethernet cable/port you'll just connect to the wifi like you would on your phone 😊 Good luck at uni!!

If they have wifi then no you don't need an ethernet cable. However, you might get more reliable service with one - the wifi in my accommodation didn't have great coverage of my room so an ethernet cable was good to have.
