Covid19 AND Blended Learning Deception

Hi
I am going to undertake a MSc in university of Strathclyde this year and I felt reassured that I would have at least some on campus university experience because the uni confirmed during the summer that we will be taught by a blended learning approach.

However, the timetable of my program has recently been uploaded and I found out that we will have only FOUR on campus lectures during the whole first semester... I feel utterly disappointed and think that the university was not honest about its policy. You cannot call blended learning a predominantly online first semester with just a tiny amount of on campus activity once every two weeks.

I am asking other MSc or undergraduate students in STRATH if their first semester looks the same like mine, or if they are going to have more on campus experience (e.g. 1-2 days a week).

Switch courses to a uni that offers a better experience.
Each uni is restricted by what it believed may happen with cv19 as they have to avoid out breaks.
Lots of students are facing online for the first term.
Perhaps there are other opportunities to have a campus experience other than lectures?
If you are unhappy then consider delaying till next year.

Hey! Really sorry to read this, I can understand why this might be disappointing for you. Have you considered getting in touch with your course leader/academic advisor to discuss this? You should be able to find their contact details from your Pegasus account.

Like @999tigger has pointed out, many universities and students will be adapting to this new way of working. It's the first time we have had to construct a timetable in this way, and the health and safety of our staff and students absolutely must remain a priority. The campus will be open, and you'll be able to use other facilities to study in/socialise safely in- and we would hope you'd be able to do this more and more so as the weeks progress. It's a really uncertain time and unfortunately due to the nature of things at the moment, we're unable to say for definite when things will feel much more 'normal'.

I'd encourage you to get in touch with your academic adviser to discuss your worries about this and go over your options, but also to remember that your experience will hopefully become more face-to-face as the months go on. I know it's really disappointing (I'd love nothing more to be able to work back on campus myself if I'm honest!!) but universities face a massive challenge this year as we deliver our teaching alongside keeping everyone around campus safe.

If you want to chat to me in private about any of this feel free to pop me a private message! :hugs:
