I’m worried I won’t get the grades for law and Im applying for law with American studies so American studies would kinda be my next choice of what I want to study. The grades for American studies are a lot lower so it would be a safe backup

You couldn't write a good PS for those subject combinations. The American studies uni could accept an alternative PS
