Assuming the title says that you can hear your own heartbeat with a stethoscope:

That's normal dw

Aren't you a final year medical student freaking out about where you'll be working for your FY1 / FY2? And you come up with this?

Do you know that it's normal that you can only hear your own heartbeat and nothing else?

I'd be more worried if you could hear 'never gonna give you up'.

well idk why all of the other comments are being so unhelpful then. I didnt realise this either. I didnt realise when listening to someone elses heartbeat youd also be able to hear your own. Sounds difficult to actually measure/count someones heartbeats when you can hear 2 heartbeats at the same time. Are you sure the earpieces fit correctly? Perhaps you need a different sized stethoscope. Hopefully some google searches could be more helpful than people are being on TSR. Maybe you'd be able to hear the other person's heartbeat more clearly if you have the stethoscope placed correctly etc.

if its normal to hear your own heartbeat and "nothing else", then how do people ever measure someone elses heartbeat?

You must have misunderstood me, OP said they can hear their own heart using a stethoscope and nothing else.

I assumed (along with everyone else on this thread) they are listening to their own heart, OP should have made that clear and posted in the "Current medical students and doctors" thread.

Are you secretly a spokesperson for Littmann stethoscopes undercover as a year 13 student? I don’t even need one and I’m tempted to buy them because of you

yes, it was rather unclear understanding what they mean. Thats the only thing I could assume though, that they meant someone elses heartbeat. Otherwise...? What would be the point of the worry? Idk lol

The entire medical profession has been pretending all these years. We’re all just too nervous to admit that we can only hear our heartbeat. It’s like the emperors new clothes of medicine.
