Anyone lived in Hugh Stew new block? The website says

'If you feel hungry outside of meal times, you will find pantries in each hall with a sink, kettle, toaster and microwave.'

but there doesn't seem to be any in the new block? We had a look at a different hall on the open day, a log corridor and that had a little kitchenette at the end, which sounds like the 'pantry facilities' the website mentions, but the HS 'new' block is set out as a cluster of rooms but no 'pantry' room. Might it be theres one pantry per block and it could be on a different floor to me?

Also we were told during the open day that HS was going to be refurbished for 20/21 students but it hasn't been, the desks and bookshelves are knackered, peeling wood, drawers dont open etc. Does anyone know if/when they will be refurbed? I'm guessing covid might have delayed things a bit, but it's difficult to find anything out on campus, theres not many people here. Hope someone can help x

The hall you describe that you visited sounds like part of Lenton & Wortley.

Not sure how moving in this year is working, you could speak to the hall tutors or the Warden, or email the accommodation service. If you get nowhere you could also try speaking to the student union for help.

There's not many people to ask. I emailed accommodation services last week but they have not replied. We did speak to someone on moving in day and he didnt know, as he had only being doing the job a week, and only knew how to hand keys out. Tried to ask another person later, who was maybe a warden, but he was very short with me and told me to read the handout we got with the key or look online, but the handout mainly says when my block is able to go to Cripps for meals, and general covid stuff. I just thought if there was someone here who has previously lived in the new block, they may be able to tell me where the kitchenette/pantry is?

The tutor teams tend to rotate every year.
And as freshers week hasnt started yet perhaps they are light on numbers.

But its pretty much the people you've asked dont know.
The warden should be more pro-active: you find their email/phone: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/accommo.../contacts.aspx

Id try this and if you dont hear back from the accommodation team, you can try the SU (the SU are a group specifically to help the students, their is an SU accommodation support team. With covid you might have to contact them virtually although I think have an office in the portland building).

Thank you for the link, I had a brief online chat with the accommodation team last week, they couldnt help and they gave me the email you have given me above the 'welcome desk' in Cripps, they are the ones who have not replied.

The issue about the refurb can wait, it's not that urgent, but I really could do with finding out about the kitchenette facilities/pantry which are supposed to be in each hall. The current catering facilities are very limited (HS, Cripps and Lenton and Wortley are all having to go to Cripps for breakfast and evening meal. Theres no catering for lunch, no on campus cafes open either I will try SU if I can, I am finding the lack of information it a bit overwhelming at the moment though
Can you also explain the difference between the hall warden, hall tutor and the hall manager please?

Perhaps see if you can have an explore and find the pantry.

I think its probably a bit more overwhelming as you have moved in early and your flat mates havent all arrived yet.

Sometimes people lose emails. If its been more then a week I would re-email outlining your concerns about the pantry and lunch situation.

In a couple weeks time you will be more settled, and you'll have figured all this out.

Thank you. I have been exploring, only found the cleaners cupboard so far though! I'll keep trying!

I cant imagine their are formal tours, with the government rule of 6 and social distancing.

Are you sure they are not families arriving, people in the same flat walking around or students in the same household walking to the gym or similar...

Probably best to look at the welcome week info the SU sends out, perhaps their twitter.

I don't think there are any tours either. How many are in the group? It could be someone taking a couple of new students with their parents to the accommodation maybe, and that's how you get to know where the kitchenette/pantry is! haha! We didn't have anyone escort us to the accommodation, maybe it's an improvement on the previous couple of days arrivals experience.
