Fake happiness

If someone told you ‘I kid myself on that I’m happy’ - what does that tell you?
That they're kidding themselves about being happy

That sentence doesn't quite make sense, but it sounds like they're saying that they tell themselves that they're happy when they're not.
That really they are unhappy but want the world to think they’re ok.
If this is a friend then ask if you can help. If it’s you then speak to someone about it before it becomes a problem

They don't understand grammatical constructs and that they feel depressed in some way.

How have they misunderstood a ‘grammatical construct’?

It does. Your friend is unhappy so try to get her to talk to you. She’s probably trying to be as happy as she can so she doesn’t feel miserable.
If you can find out what’s making her sad then maybe together you can solve it.
If there’s no reason then you can support her whilst she tries to get some help. School can help or her gp
You’re a good friend
