My first name is Herman and I feel very embarrassed by it. I'm only sixteen and get bullied quite a bit. Is my name really that bad?

It's uncommon and it does sound somewhat strange, yes.

I wouldn't say it was that weird.
Uncommon maybe, but not weird.

German/Austria descent? Class name mate don't worry about what people say.

I'd be called Herman any day

Thanks. But I only have British and Irish ancestry. My parents are somewhat old fashioned and prefer archaic names, such as mine. My sister is called Elsie and my brother is called Albert.

If it's any consolation, I would totally marry you just for the name (if I were of the female denomination)

Best way to deal with that is embrace it and laugh with them. They’ll stop having power over you.

Also, yes it’s unusual. But as someone with a very common name, I would love to have an unusual name too (:
And I love your name personally

But the question is, would you change your name to Hiswoman? :holmes:

Also agreed with the above post OP 😂

sounds like a rather outdated old fashioned name sorry.

not surprised at the teasing (although it doesn't justify it)

I would suggest getting it changed.

Herman is an old name for sure, but that doesn't make it bad, and it's the name your parents gave you. So they'll just have to get over it.

I could never consider changing it. I was apparently named after my great-grandfather, who died the day before I was born. My dad told me that he chose the name out of respect for his grandfather.

Yes, but if I call myself "H" people are going to start thinking that I have some weird fetish for the Steps member, which I do not whatsoever. I could ask people to call me "Herm" but that would sound just as strange as Herman.
