I'd just say it's a bit rude- especially if someone is asking a question and then you just respond duhh, it might make them feel awful because they just wanted to know the answer and instead of nicely explaining it, you've made them feel stupid.

Depends on context.
It makes the user look a slow of mind (not allowed to use the word) and its heartening to see we have so many duh experts and users on TSR.
