Does anyone else miss living at home?

Whenever I talk to people about missing being at home literally everyone says that they love being at uni way more that being at home? Like some of my friends say they hate holidays because they just want to go back to uni but I never felt that eager to go back.
It’s not that I’m extremely homesick like I love being able to to whatever I want and I guess I kind of prefer being at uni. But the thing I miss most about being at home is just having people in the house, like when I have a stressful day at uni I just go back to my accommodation and just sit by myself which is honestly quite depressing.
Tbh I think I just had a lot of freedom at home and my parents don’t really treat me like a child that much so I honestly don’t have much more freedom at uni.

I just want to say I really relate to how you feel coming back to your accommodation on your own, that was the main thing I found hard last year. I wasn't too homesick overall, I liked uni, but I did miss having a home with people to chat to about your days with, especially if it had been stressful. I ended up calling my parents quite a lot just for a chat when I got back to my room. I met friends through societies etc., but my actual accommodation was a bit lonely. Definitely not just you! I hope things improve for you this year, I have higher hopes for my new flat

Not really. Moving out is one of the best things I ever did for myself.

Hiya!

Don't feel alone as so many people feel the same as you! It's totally normal to feel homesick especially in the first few weeks when everything is so different, it's such a lifestyle switch up.

I recommend start branching out. Have a look at societies that you are interested in. Scroll through and apply for as many that take your fancy as this will put you with lots of people who have the same interests as you. Society reps totally understand that people are trying to make friends so it may seem awkward at first doing lots of ice breakers but it gives you the perfect opportunity to meet new people.

Try and socialise with your housemates (if you're living with other people!) by creating a group chat with them and always messaging to go out if you need to do a food shop or even just pop to wilko so you don't have to go alone. also try find free things to do in your area and you can ask to go with them for a day out

Have a look on your university's career page as they will post internal jobs (like working as an ambassador which is what I do, and is great for meeting other students as well as very flexible hours!) as well as external jobs in your local area which aren't always posted on career sites such as Indeeed.

It's good to stay in contact with you friends and family back home, and its good for them to come visit you for a day or for you to go back home for a weekend as feeling homesick is totally normal!

Have the best time at uni, it will get better! Sam- Official Student Rep

I feel you! I didn't make friends last year so there were a lot of times I was just sat on my own at uni feeling like sh*t, especially since all my home friends seemed to be having a great time at their unis. I'm close with my family so I ended up just calling home a lot. There were other people in my accommodation who did the same (as well as the usual sociable types).
