Uni and Covid

Is anyone else seriously considering dropping out of uni and applying again next year, or at least leaving campus to do their degree wholly online due to awful Covid measures putting them at risk?

I'm currently in my halls alone because I flaked from a party my flatmates were having at another flat down the stairs. University banned socialisation between flats and I am scared shitless of both getting sanctioned for partying but also missing out on drinking. This is an absolute nightmare and idk what to do.
I’m doing my masters this year, no excuses for me and no worries about a virus. Ready to put in the work. I see why this is tough for first year guys though, you are missing freshers week
Look, Freshers and uni drinking is waaaay overhyped. I couldn't tell you a single thing I did, or a single person I met, during my Freshers week. Yes, there was a lot of drinking and general mayhem, but it was unmemorable, overrated, and had no meaningful impact on the direction of my life.

What I can say is that the students who really got into partying in first year never really stopped - some dropped out, plenty failed classes and were still finishing their degrees long after the rest of us, and tbh most are actually problem alcoholics now. Uni isn't improved by drinking all the time - it's sold that way as the real experience straight out of home because uni bars want to make money, and big uni towns like the business, but try to find anyone over 25 who thinks their first year shenanigans are still funny, and you'll probably struggle. Plan a couple of good nights with good friends once you make them, take the time to plan for a memorable event, and avoid wasting your student loan on making funny coloured piles of vomit on the footpath every weekend.
