chemistry- how is F-F linear?

i asked my teacher this and he didn't really answer my question.
i thought you need two pairs of e-s for something to be linear?

so why does my textbook say that you need to have two bonding pairs of electrons for a linear shape...are they wrong?

I would have to read the textbook to understand the context in which they say that.
Without doing so, it would be unwise of me to comment.
