What is the difference between the answers of 'Why are you applying for your chosen course?' and 'Why does this subject interest you?'.

Honestly it's not obvious and I may be wrong, but this is how I did it in my interviews (going into second year of uni now).

You should answer the first question with what you like about how the specific university runs that course. Perhaps it's the topics covered, the teaching style, fieldwork, etc, things that are specific to the university.
Whereas the second question is exactly as it sounds, things about the subject itself.

Though since you're answering these questions in a personal statement which is for multiple universities' courses, I'd answer the second question only.
