Hi - is anyone able to explain how special consideration works?

I'm currently self-isolating due to housemates having COVID and if I test positive I'll have to miss my first A-Level exam

Does special consideration mean it's not possible to achieve top grades as I'd get 0% for the paper I miss? Or are those grades still possible if I sit the other papers and do well?

If you miss an exam for a good enough reason then they will calculate a mark for the missed exam(s) and you can still get an A* (I have known people do so). Howvere, you can't get a grade if you miss all of the exams for that subject.

Hi beachpanda,

I’ve no idea how special consideration works with regard to missing exams due to COVID-19, but you need to talk to your teachers/exams officer about this — they’ll be able to help and inform you.

I would assume that it would still be possible to access higher grades under these arrangements, though.

I spent ages digging through google/TSR but couldn't find anything on actual final grades, so thankyou for this! I think it's a minimum of 25% of the exams need to be sat right?
