Today is Micheal Schumacher’s 53rd birthday. Keep fighting Micheal.

Interesting video describing the development handicap for this year
Just found out DRS is returning in 2022. Hopefully its not needed but could make for a lot of back & fourth battles if things are very close.

Isnt that Martin Whitmarsh?

Yep, he joined Aston mid-season as CEO, I think that was when the Otmar rumours started
Here's some extracts from KMags autobiography:

Mclaren Period

Martin Whitmarsh hired him, waffle, albon and de Vries as jr drivers.
Vabdoorne and KMag were the sim drivers in 2013, however mclaren ignored their suggestions for setup changes as they didnt want to embarrass their race drivers.
All the mclaren drivers / juniors had to complete daily wellbeing forms and send photos of their food to the team
Whitmarsh got KMag a force india contract for 2014 but Ron cancelled the deal and offered KMag a seat for 2014. Whitmarsh was sacked the day after.
KMag highly rates Button for his technical expertise and driving ability.
Mclaren were too arrogant about thwir own abilities and only button was realistic about the situation
Williams offered him an opportunity to replace Massa for the following season but boullier convinced him to stay
There was a board vote for 2015 mclaren to keep KMag and Button. 7-2 in favour of KMag, however Mumkalat and Ojjeh were the 2 who wanted button and had a higher stake in the team than Ron Dennis (apparently this is 1 of the reasons for Ron's departure)
Ron told KMag thathe would replace button in 2016 if he underperformed. At the same time, KMag wasnt allowed to drive elsewhere or even try the simulator.
His fav person at Mclaren was their former head of communication Matt Bishop (something ive heard alot about it Bishop is very well respected by all the drivers who have raced for mclaren / he also acted like a fixer. Also was the 1st openly gay seniorish person in f1).
Kmag was sacked on his 23rd birthday in 2015.
Did a test and was offered a race seat in DTM by Toto.

Renault
Cyril would ignore him early in the season
Praised Jolyon's technical ability but felt Palmer lacked confidence / instinct.
Alain Permaine expected KMag to outqualify Palmer by 0.5s each qualy session (translation - Palmer was a pay driver)
Mid season upgrade made the car unpredictable. Wasnt allowed to go back to older spec and was the reason KMag felt he had a huge crash in Spa.
Renault offered a 1 year renewal, has offered a 2 year deal. Kmag asked Gunther for twice his initial offer and Gunther accepted straight away.

Haas
Haas had no politics when he was there. It was a just drive the car mentality with gunther and gene running things.
They also had a stop crying and drive mentality. Kmag had an ill-fitting seat was told to get on with it.
ferrari approached him to be an off the books sim driver for 2018, which haas agreed to and they enquired about his contract situation in 2019 (could be nothing however)
He asked RB for a seat for 2019 after ricciardo announced he was leaving in 2018 . RB told him they already signrd Gasly but asked if he was interested in Torro Rosso for 2019.
2019 haas was quick in quali but overheated their tyres a lot in races
He apologised to gunther the race after he fok smashed his door
Him and grosjean used to share a toilet and he would often 'forget' to unlock grosjeans side.
Grosjeans hand burn was actually caused by rmain grabbing the halo to get out of the car

Post F1
Was offered a seat at ganassi for 2021 if he paid for it. He declined.
Also offered an fe seat but declined as he doesn't like racing in electric cars

Sponsor news:
UPS will no longer sponsor ferrari after 9 years of sponsorship.

Strong rumours are that Otmar is taking BWT to Alpine

Otmar (no idea how to spell his surname) is leaving Aston

Does that not suggest the car may be a dudd.
Some feeder series news (don't know how much of this we have covered)

F2:

Logan Sargaent will compete in f2 in 2022 for Carlin

Felipe Drugovic returns to MP motorsport in 2022 after struggling for UNI-Virtuosi, Drugovic will be joined by Celment Novalak in MP

Roy Nissany will remain will DAMS

Theo Pouchaire has singed a contract for 2022 but its not been announced who for, this is widely expected to be ART

F3

Mainly just news on a regional series for F3, namely the "new" Formula Regional Asia replacing F3 Asia which for a second season in a row will be exclusively UAE based

Prema effectively have 3 teams in the series, Mumbai Falcons, Abu Dhabi Racing by Prema and the normal Prema team.

Mumabi Falcons will have Sebastian Montoya (son of Juan Pablo), Arthur Leclerc, Dino beganovic and Ollie Bearman. Montoya and Bearmann will share the seat with Montoya doing the first 3 rounds and Bearmann doing the last 3 .

The Abu Dhabi Racing by Prema team will feild: Hamda Al Qabasi, Amna al Qabasi and Khaled Al Qabasi

The Prema team proper does not have its lineup yet

The only other semi notable signing is Gabriel Mini for Hitech (Mini being a f4 champ and very fast young Italain)
The Dakar rally has also concluded its first week.

Audi have entered 3 electric powered E-trons but after navigational issues and other general problems inclduing an accident for Peterhansel none are really in contention, the top Audi is Mathias Ekstrom in P14, while Carlos Sainz (who has won a stage) is down in p25. The rally is being led by Nasser Al-Attiyah for Toyota Gazoo racing who has a 48 minute lead of Yazeed al Rajhi also in a Toyota. Rally legend Sebastien Loeb is P3

One of the nicer stories is Danilo Petrucci, former KTM and Ductai MotoGP rider is competing in the Dakar for KTM has won a stage, so good on him.

Mumbai falcons should just be called team ferrari driver academy.

Likewise team AD should br called team al Qabasi as it is the pretty quicky old rally driver and his 2 daughters
Maserati have confirmed that they will join formula e at the start of next season.

The race says that maserati will be using ds drive train for the 1st 2 seasons. It is unclear if this will be a new entry or if they are taking over an existing team.
In contrast, mtorsport.com says that they will be developing their own powertrain and will be partnered with an existing team

Intruiging bit of development, it seems teams are likely goinf to be going to a full pullrod layout. The main reason for this is due to the fact that all the cars will have low noses and pushrod would be mechanically and aerodynamically problematic vs pushrod. The main disadvantage of pullrod however is that it is a lot harder to setup vs pushrod as the main components are low down in the car / harder to access.
Ferrari, mclaren and (potentially) haas seem to be heading to an all pullrod layout but more teams are expected to follow (i wouldn't be surprised to see alpine go for it as Pat Fry is with them)

Marcus Armstrong has left the FDA meanwhile as has illott reflectively

Armstrong hasnt been impressive since he joined the f1 feeder calendar. Probably was kept on as his dad owns NZs largest car deal (think kiwi equivalent of HR Owen). Ilot im surprised has been tapped to be involved in the ferrari hypercar programme but also can understand why he has left

I may be wrong on illiott. The announcement states something like Indy is out the reach of the FDA to help him so it may be a case of not now but you can come back
