Line graphs

When do you draw a straight line graph and when do you draw a curved one?
hey there, with line graphs, you would draw a straight line on equations that are similar to this X=Y, 2X=2Y, X=2Y (i cant remember the mathematical term for this)

and a curved line is when there is a multiplication or division involved,
hope this helps,
Luis

Hi there,

It depends on the points that you have plotted. You'll be able to see if they go up in a curve or a straight line when you look at the points plotted. I also make sure that I have plotted them correctly by checking diagrams on online.

I was talking in terms of physics.

Well that depends on lots of things - are you given an explicit formula e.g. y = f(x), are you just given a set of points to plot, are you expecting a linear relationship between the dependent and independent variables, etc?
a set of points from an experiment

a set of points from an experiment

Are they in a straight line (roughly) or not?
nope
