Grade banding at HM Treasury. Please help!!

I’m wondering if anyone here work/worked for HM Treasury, please. How does the grade banding works at HMT? I understand that they have range D ( HEO/SEO) which is slightly different from other government departments grade banding. My question is... how do you progress from range D to D2? Is it just a matter of being promoted in your current role ( without going through interview) from range D to D2?

Also, can you progress from range D to range E? Or do you have to go through range D2 first? I’m confused because all their HEO/SEO jobs are advertised as range D so I thought the next grade to progress to, would be range E ( grade 7). But I have been sent a welcome pack and there is range D2 as well.

I have never seen any range D2 jobs on the SC website.
