A student on the Engineering Foundation course had been working full-time for a small manufacturing company for the past 2 years. She has now decided to join the course to enhance her skills and broaden her job prospects.

Based on her contract with the company, she had to work for 37 hours per week. Any additional hours she worked counted as overtime. In a typical week she would work for 42 hours.

She was paid £9.50 per hour for the first 37 hours. She was then paid 1.5 x her hourly rate, for every hour she worked overtime.
