Chances of being caught speeding? -aaaah

First off Im not a fast driver or an idiot on the road by any means, but I suppose that doesnt make a difference..So yesterday I took the wrong road and got kinda lost, while trying to find my way home I was driving down this road and I while I was concentrating on a sign at the side of the road i realised that i was at about 35/36mph and there was lines on the road denonting that there was a camera...but i was at the end of the lines as i noticed so slowing down would of been no good. I swung the car round and drove back and there was a speed camera :/

Neither me or my passenger saw a flash, but it was during the day. Is it likley that I will be caught for this? How long before the letter comes to your house?

Sometimes they mess up and don't flash. I would expect a fine though.

Id take a fine over 3 points tbh

If you are lucky your speedo over-reads and you were only doing 33/34.
You prob good cause them speed cameras give you a couple of miles over the limit and your speedo will over read by 3 miles an hour.

Most speedometers are built to over-read. And most speed cameras are lenient up to a few mph over the limit. If these two come into effect, you should be fine.
Reply 6
You can get away with under 35mph and your speedo will more than likely over-read so you should be fine

On a slightly related note. My dad's fiancée went to a fortune teller, and they told her that a boy in the family aged between 16 and 18 will lose their license in the first 4-6 months after getting it, due to speeding :P.

I know that's quite a broad generalisation, and it's highly likely that statistics show that MOST families have this happen within them. Still slightly worried though . Apparently everything else he said was creepily accurate and so on. I'm not one for believing in this ********, but it does make you think *-).
You should get it winthin 2 weeks for sure.

I think speed cameras allow 'overspeeding' to take into account your speedo being out - so 33 on your speedo is probably a real 30mph. i imagine the speed camera itself has a hard limit of 30 or 31. therefore going at 35 on your speedo would probably be over that.

If you were only a few miles an hour over the limit you should be able to do a Speeding Course thing and not get the points on your license. I'm pretty sure 35 in a 30 zone would allow you to do that  so it's not too bad even if you did get caught. I got caught doing 39 and didn't get this option, so now I have 3 points and I'm only 19! Oops :P
Did you look to see if there was actually a camera in it? Could have just been an empty box, there are lots like that where I live.

Nope just saw a big gray box - assumed it was a speed camera

Do they not have to be all luminous and bright now?

I bought a road-angel thingy which beeps when i'm approaching a speed camera or police van... i think its fab!!

if it was a big grey box, then that is most likely a red light camera, or so ive been told. All speed cameras have been painted bright yellow for the last few years.

Whats the difference?

red light camera will detect if you have driven through a red traffic light.. (Think you can still get fine and points for that though) :-S
speed camera will detect whether you are breaking the speed limit..

Hope its ok dude

What a load of crap- hard speed limit wtf? 34mph on your speedo is likely to be around 31/32.

Speed Cameras generally have a tolerance of at least ten percent, even more on some. So I think you will be fine.

And no it is not the law to have all speed cameras yellow. In my area there are a lot of speed traffic light camera which are grey.

Speed Cameras are a bloody waste of time imho. They serve absolutely no good whatsoever.

I have also seen some new camera types which are green, which I thought was a bit sneaky.

it takes two weeks for a letter to come through. if its a new speed camera then the image will be sent straight to police and they will send letter, however of its an old sped camera every week a perso has to come and collect the filnd then send to police station and then they deal with it
